Pixel Desktop not allowing access
-
I downloaded and installed Pixel through the RetroPie Setup Script and for some reason, it's not allowing me access to anything other than the home folder. Could someone help?
Thanks! -
@bl3nd What do you mean by 'not allowing me access' ? What are you exactly trying to do ?
-
@mitu I just want to be able to make the different tools work. And to do that I need to put the files in the different folders. But it won't let me. For example I tried to get Scratch to work (because I like coding and am not super good yet.) and so I downloaded the files and attempted to put them in the correct folders but it said something like you do not have permission.
-
@bl3nd you know that pixel is just a theme for emulationstation, right? All it does is make systems in the emulationstation program look a certain way?
-
@gomisensei Wrong pixel you're thinking of. Bl3nd's referring to the desktop enviroment called Pixel. You can find it in RetroPie setup, under Raspbian Tools. (though I seriously recommend having a backup before you install it, uninstalling it is a massive pain in the backside because of how many packages it installs)
-
@gomisensei yes pixel is a theme but PIXEL or LXDE is a desktop view for Raspbian.

ahhh. didn't know that PIXEL was a part of retropie. Feel silly now...

@SuperCatFooz Not to be mean or anything but the entire Raspberry Pi can be a pain at times.

That's normal, since you probably try to copy the files in a folder where your user (
pi
) does not have the proper permissions. That's the way a Linux/Unix system works. The correct way would be to install it as a
root
user, by running from the terminalsudo apt-get -y install scratch2
OR install
synaptic
(sudo apt-get -y install synaptic
) to have a graphical interface for installing additional programs on your system. The RetroPie image is just a Raspbian Lite installation underneath, so use the documentation for Raspbian when trying to add additional software.

@mitu Thanks! I will try it.
