Power supply for PI+Monitor
-
Hello :) sorry if this seems a bit of a silly question, I'm new.
I currently use one standard phone charger cable and supply for powering both my pi b+ and my lcd 5inch hdmi monitor, connected to the monitor with is shared through the GPIO I think. Whilst it seems to work fine, the rainbow square of low voltage appears whilst retropie is booting. Is this unsafe? Should I power through the pi instead of screen, or should I use two cables? I want to make it portable eventually so one cable is much preferred so I can attach a battery pack, but what voltage and ampage should I be using to ensure the least possible goes wrong? Thanks :) -
What screen are you using? if the display you are using has a dedicated dc jack, power the screen with that. or buy a official power supply.

nope, no power supply packaged. 5 inch hdmi lcd v2, 800 x 480 pixel. I bought it from a chinese reseller on eBay, unsure of the make. Will low voltage usage damage the pi?

@Atari1050 The web page for Wave Share 5 in screen recommends a separate power supply. Here is a link to their page http://www.waveshare.com/5inch-hdmi-lcd.htm.
