RetroPie Setup
-
I'm trying to install/setup RetroPie on my RaspberryPi. I bought mine a while back and followed the steps laid out by the seller. When I got to RetroPie I ran into a couple problems. It seems the mixture of versions I had did not give me the "1 Binary-based installation". I assume this was in regards to the warning beforehand as to Wheezy not being supported. I tried to update to Jessie but ran out of space a long ways down the line.
I then wiped the card and burned a fresh image of Jessie. I've followed the same RetroPie install/setup steps but now when I run RetroPie_Setup I get much different options.
Manage Packages
Setup / Tools
Uninstall RetroPie
Update RetroPie-Setup Script
Perform RebootAgain no installation option. What am I missing?

@username97 Someone will surely chime in with the right steps to install, but I have always just started with the pre-installed image. Since you already wiped the card (or are willing to do so) why not just download the pre-built image?

I can try that next. I'm not extremely hopeful that will run smoothly either. Simply updating the locale info was a pain. I had to try at least half a dozen methods to get that to seem to work. -
Installation was the easiest part of all my retropie experience so far, I simply followed the guide here - https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/First-Installation
Are you doing something different?

the setup script has just recently changed. i guess it's not documented yet. if it doesn't make sense, use the preinstalled image.

to install manually with the new packages menu on top of an existing Raspbian - you just choose what you want to install. Basically, everything from Packages/Core and everything from Packages/Main will give you the base install, but you are free to add/remove emulators as you need. You can then just update the packages you have installed, rather than re-installing everything.

@BuZz
Thanks. That was it. Installed both Core and Main. It works great! -
@BuZz, @username97
A little late to the party here, but in case it helps anyone else, I've written a comprehensive guide to installing RetroPie manually on top of Raspbian, including the changes introduced in the new, far more flexible, version 4 Retropie-setup script:RetroPie Manual Installation Guide, including the Version 4 Setup Script Revised Menu Structure
