it will be in your mame roms dir in the mame2003-plus directory.

@mitu you generate the dat file from the tab menu for mame2003 and mame2003 plus now we carried over the to mame2003 because some sets needed fixed up for parent clone relationships. If mame2003 isint in content/mame2003 it will be in the bios folder cant remember if we updated the mame2003 dir

Look in /opt/retropie/libretrocores/lr-mame2003-plus/metadata/. It should be named mame2003-plus.xml

@grant2258 - We can generate a DAT from the mame2003 menu also?

@riverstorm https://github.com/libretro/mame2003-libretro/pull/357 read the info in these it was the basic things we fixed in the sets at the start with bad dumps in mame2003 plus. There are no new roms are required just run it through clrmame pro. I know you know you what your doing when it comes to that anyway. I think the history file bug will still be in mame2003 so if your having problems with it making dats rename history file temporally maybe dankcushions can look into that he seems to be the the only active mod for 2003 but im not tagging him lol

                      Thank you.
                      One last novice question.
I have never rebuilt a room set befor.
What is the best way to built the 2003 plus set, I am using full non merged .78 and .139.
I can follow the directions fine, my questions is more do I put the roms all in the one folder or two folders one for each set inside the source folder.

@gizmobjb You can find instructions to build a romset for mame2003-plus on its Github page.

I could not find anything that showed how to place the roms in folders. I got the best scan after the rebuild by putting the sets in separate folders inside one folder. Still have a bunch that showing missing roms.

I just tried that myself and the file isn't there. I have my roms in ~/RetroPie/arcade, but after choosing "Generate XML Dat" from the MAME menu (the running game freezes for a few seconds), there is no dat or xml file in ~/RetroPie/arcade/mame2003-plus or any of its subdirectories. The same applies to my empty ~/RetroPie/roms/mame-libretro/mame2003-plus and its subdirs.

What is the name of the file?

edit: I'm using the latest mame2003-plus version from source.

the one in the metadata is from the site not always up to date.

the one generated from mame is in contents_dir/mame2003-plus . (where your roms are)

if your roms are in /RetroPie/roms/mame-libretro/
                                  your dat will be in
                                  /RetroPie/roms/mame-libretro/mame2003-plus/ mame2003-plus.xml

if your roms are in /RetroPie/roms/mame-libretro/mame2003_plus_split/
                                  your dat will be in
                                  /RetroPie/roms/mame-libretro//mame2003_plus_split/mame2003-plus/ mame2003-plus.xml

@grant2258 You're right. My mistake was that I used mame2003 instead of mame2003-plus. That was the reason the xml wasn't generated in ../arcade/mame2003_plus where I looked first.

To access the MAME tab menu, I ran a game that I thought was using mame2003-plus, but either I changed its runcommand setting back to mame2003 in the past or an update did it. Thanks.
