C64 VICE onscreen keyboard unresponsive
-
Running on a fresh installed, updated 4.4 Retropie on a Raspberry Pi 3B+
When I start C64 M.U.L.E. I press Y on my gamepad to use the virtual keyboard, then push Select to enable the cursor. All good so far.
Then I select F3 on the virtual keyboard to change the game difficulty and press A. Nothing happens. So I mash A like 20 times and finally it changes to "standard" difficulty. Mash A a bunch more and it goes to "tournament difficulty". Then to F5, which I mash A on a few dozen times until it finally accepts two of my inputs and sets the game to 2 player mode. Then I mash F7 a bunch and the game starts.
Is this unresponsive virtual keyboard behavior a known bug?
The gamepad I'm using functions properly during actual gameplay and in other emulators. It's just the virtual keyboard where I'm experiencing a problem.

I've never noticed this in the standalone VICE emulator. Are you using it or lr-vice? Also, have you tested to see if this happens in multiple games?

I'm using lr-vice. It should be easy to replicate, just install retropie on a 3B+, get updates, and start lr-vice. It happens even on the start screen, you don't have to be in a game.
I've discovered that certain keys are affected worse than others. On the name entry, I can mash "O" 30+ times before it randomly works once. "T" however works (almost?) every time, as does "1".
I started mashing "0" repeatedly and got a pattern like this: 222222022222202202222220222020022222
I was mashing zero, and I mostly got twos.
Mashing "9" got: 6517+959999

The problem seems to be worse than I thought. I recorded a video:

Yeah, lr-vice virtual keyboard is flawed, it seems an hit or miss, game sensitive. On older version there was no way to activate cursor, so better than nothing.
It is better to use usb keyboard for sure.
