I'm trying to set up retropie and emulation station on a TV using HDMI cable. When Emulation station starts it says 1 Gamepad detected and wants me to set up the left, right, up and down buttons but I don't have a gamepad connected. Next to each button it says "Press Anything". I held one of the buttons down and held it thinking that it would skip it and say "Not Defined" but it doesn't skip. When I let go of the button, after about 4 or 5 seconds, it says "Button 4". Why is it detecting a gamepad that is not connected and how can I get around this?
      Any help appreciated.

@columbo I'm confused. What buttons are you pressing if you have no gamepad plugged in? keyboard?

@columbo it sounds like you are configuring a keyboard as a game pad. Is that correct?
