Hi. I loaded alot of roms into my rpi 3b. All other consoles loads every game, but Neo Geo and MAME are having trouble loading most of the games. The screen goes black. It sits for around 5 seconds and return to the menu. I have the Neo Geo file with my MG roms, but still, I can only play a handful of games. Please bear with me. Total noob at this. Tried to change the emulators and stuff like that, but nothing works.

      running 3.8.1

      Regards :)

@corruto sounds like romset/emulator mismatch. check the documentation - https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Managing-ROMs

Also make sure you have all the bios files of NeoGeo. I had some problems with the bios files, when I opened the ZIP file it only had 3 files in it. I downloaded an another which had more and all my NeoGeo games worked.

As for the MAME problem, I think you need to rebuild your romset. The tutorial is here: https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Managing-ROMs

Arcade emulation is a confusing beast when starting out.

Basically ROMs will only work for specific emulator versions. For example, Mame 2003 needs roms from the 0.78 romset. You need a corresponding BIOS file for the same romset as well (neogeo needs to be correct version. This was my downfall for a while with neogeo games)

Familiarize yourself with the different arcade emulators in Retropie and what kind of performance and compatibility you can expect. You need to note the versions of each emulator. Then ensure you have roms from that version's romset.

For what it's worth, so far I have stuck with the FBA emulator. It's got good compatibility and performance. Note that generally speaking, the higher the accuracy of emulation, the worse the performance....
