Just about to build my first retro Pi :) What pi? raspberry pi 3 b+? Build check

Thanks Buddy, I have read about compatability issues with the 3B+ is this now solved as they are older threads, I may well overclock it if it gives me better performance. I love overclocking PC's so i may get the itech so a fan well its less than a fiver and the case has a fan slot.
I have HDMI cables kicking about assume its normal HDMI and not Mini HDMI?
I have an abundance of power supplies and behind the TV i have a 40watt Anker USB power brick that runs a fire stick so was planning on using this (its 2.4 amps per port) would this be OK? its also got fairly good voltage control to keep the voltage at 5.0v at the end of the cable.

Also looking at getting a Sandisk Ultra Micro SD card class 10 100MB/s card

Yes, it's normal HDMI.

The power supply for the PI 3B+ is specced at 5V/2.5A, your existing power brick seems ok. You'll be seeing the undervoltage sign on your display if your power source is not up to par, so you can buy it later on if that's the case.

perfect thanks for your help. will both these controllers i have listed work OK?
Sorry for banging on but just dont want to buy the wrong thing. I have a bunch of spare PSU's so can try them and as you say if needed buy the genuine one. Ideally i would like to use the brick that is there for a tidy installation.
Seem to be finding conflicting information about the pi 3 B+ also

Yes, they work fine in RetroPie. Just don't get 2 of the same, otherwise you'll confuse them :).

perfect thanks i will likely be painting one for the MRS so that should separate them
I have found threads about using a strech image on 3B+ pi's but these go back to april etc.

The latest version of RetroPie fully supports the 3B+ - https://retropie.org.uk/2018/04/retropie-4-4-is-released/. You probably stumbled upon the topic for the testing (beta) image that was released before.

Ah Perfect thanks, I know we cannot talk about copyright material etc so lets assume im talking about legal ROMs, can i download them from anywhere or do the roms need to be a specific format for retropi?

Please re-read https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first and the forum rules.

OK i slightly messed up the wording i meant can i use any format or does retropi need a specific format. i cant see this conflicting with the rules but if it does please let me know. Dont want to get banned day one :(
-
@randall8686 It's emulator specific. Some emulators allow zipped files, some don't.
-
@randall8686 Use the Docs, there is a section for each emulator (system) including the file extension understood for earch one. By now, ROMs have standardized the format and extension, most of them can be zipped and the emulator will read them.
