Help with setting up my first rp 3b+
-
Hi everyone,
First time posting here have a quick query I hope someone can answer.
I am looking at a prebuilt rom 64gb all killer no filler for my rp3 essentially what I would like to do to this image is remove a heap of the n64 games in place for some of the PSX titles I would like to have in place. I would also like to add nintendo wii to this setup (with just a couple of games most likely).
My main questions are;
Is it easy to add/remove roms from a prebuilt image as I would like to ensure I delete any artwork associated with the roms I remove.
Is it possible in just a few clicks to add box art etc to the image easily so its consistent with how the rest of the image is setup?
How do I go about adding Kodi to this ?
Will Kodi get auto updated if a new version comes out? or would I have to go through some rigmaroll to get ie start image from scratch to update Kodi version/files
How do I go about adding Steam to the retropie config as I would like to steam my games from my desktop to my TV
Final question is it possible to have this setup;
pre built game Rom image with Kodi/Steam + Android install
or
pre built game rom image with Steam + Android install with Kodi on that
or
prebuilt game rom image + Android install with Kodi/Steam on thatI don't care which way what I want is achieved so long as its possible to do.
Whole reason im doing this is so I can have retro gaming available to me with some newer stuff that I most likely would never get a chance to play/try due to funds and the fact my android tv stick no longer gets Kodi updates nor can have the OS updated, so I can stream what games I do have to my TV.
Sorry for so many questions just need advice on how to go about doing all of this I have my rp3 b+, retro nes pi case, samsung pro evo 64gb just need the knowledge on how to do this.
Again my apologies if this post is against any rules.
Cheers in advance for the help,
Bandit.

Check the rules.
Pre built image, no chance.
Start from scratch, use the Pi image in the downloads section.
Help will be forthcoming.

Yes, it is. We don't offer support for 3rd party images. Start with the image from retropie.org.uk/download and we'll be able to answer your questions. And, please, read the rules.

Thanks for the link I was just about to ask where the dl section was all I could see was the forum stuff, thank you.
So with starting off my image when it comes to Kodi updates do I need to do my whole image over from the start or there is something there that lets you add/update it easily?
also with Android install if that needs to be updated or changed (same with my retropie install) do I need to wipe the card and redo everything from start to end again?
Just trying to get it all setup so I can update when required but not have to start again from the very start if thats possible at all.
Also using an rx560 for my gaming can I stream with steam directly to steam on the retropie install?
or would I have to install steam on my android install to get it to work with amd gpu?

Kodi is updated as a system package, so whenever there is an update for Rapsbian Stretch for it, it will be updated.

There is no Android support in Retropie.

I don't know, but if you want to stream from Steam, then why don't you use your PC ?

Thanks for the answers.
With android not sure if this is possible or not. Essentially I was hoping I could do the same when a PC has more than 1 os running you can get the choice of which to boot into when the device is turned on so in this case retropie or android options at boot. Would seperate partitions on the sd card make this possible so if I need to upgrade one of the os I can just update/upgrade on whatever partition for one of the two os that are installed?
Desktop is in another room and no space in the room where the TV is that im using hence wanting to get steam running on my pi.

Steam doesn't run on a Raspberry Pi. You might want to try buying Steam Link.

I'm not sure if Android runs on Raspberry Pi, but for multi-boot support you can use something like PINN, BerryBoot or NOOBS - but there's no official support for installing using it. People have used Berryboot or PINN (which I think offers the option to install RetroPie), but for Android you're on your own.

Oh I have seen some installs with it in the retropie menu as if its another game system they click it and it boots though I think they were calling it moonlight or something.
Ok cool, I had abit of a look around and saw Berryboot as the installer to use. Do you have any idea if I can use berryboot to install that stock rom image you pointed me to earlier then add throw in my extra os to my sd card or will this stock retropie image take up the whole sd card making it not possible to add another os to the card? (this might be a dumb question just trying to wrap my head around limitations and how the pi operates abit better).

Yes, that option exists, but it's not included in RetroPie.

There are Berryboot images available - just check the download page.

One other thing I forgot to ask about will generic chinese controllers work on the Pi if not is there a way to add drivers ?
-
@time-bandit Some controllers will work, you should check if it's Linux/Xbox/PS compatible. If you have a model in mind we could take a look at it.
-
-
First one might work, but the 2nd one - the PS clone - I don't think it will work correctly since they mention it needs a driver (!) to activate the rumble.
-
Even with the drivers, vibration seems to be an issue according to several reviews there.
The pad might work without vibration on Retropie if it sticks to the USB standards, but then I would rather buy another one without vibration that's recommended for Retropie here or somewhere else on the web.
-
With or without vibration isn't a big thing for me. If it works great if not no biggie im more interested in replaying some of the old classics.
Only reason I have gone with the controllers I have is firstly because they were cheap and for the ps clone controller I will be using that with my steam games/PC games.
Basically at the ps clones will be going back between my parents place and my place @ parents on a backup desktop I have there and travel in a case with my laptop for easier to handle titles. Having it work on the pi would just make things cost wise abit better for me since NZD to USD is alot for me.

We've seen reports where the controller would not start vibrating because it's not properly recognized by the OS, event if it works. I think you should consider another controller, but hey !, it's your money.
