Nice one - I managed to get permission for mine to go in the house on the basis that the colour scheme of the cabinet matched the living room!

          Just an update.
Tried Amiberry on my Pi - No success
Tried Dosbox on Ubuntu running RetroPie - Medium success

Dosbox attempt couldn’t load from EmulationStation as didn’t know which of the file to click. After I had done them all a file called swsengpp worked but not in full screen completely and couldn’t exit for the life of me.

3 hours later = gave up

              @rbaker tried this. Didn’t have a _BootWHD/Devs/Kickstarts folder

And the rest plainly didn’t make no sense.

@dirty_monkee Well I have not tried WHDLOAD yet but SWOS was one of the first things I tried when I got a Pi. It seemed to launch and play from ADF's, with a standard A500 setup, 1.3 Kickstarter and 1MB configuration. I cant remember if it was UAE or Amiberry though as it was ages ago. Cannon Fodder worked as well. SWIV though did not which was a disappointment.

I have got amiberry setup and kickstarts and the relevant lha.

Now what? Where do the kickstarts go, what do i change the name too. I can get emulation station to finally find these now by adding .lha to es_systems.cfg but they load into either blue amiga screen or some AROS screen with a few lines of text depending on where I put my kick starts.

I have tried all conflicting instructions and watched videos from etaprime and floob.

Out of ideas.... hopefully not out of reach

@dirty_monkee Ignore any You Tube videos - they will no doubt be out of date.

This is the official guide for using Amiberry WHDBooter with RetroPie: https://github.com/midwan/amiberry/wiki/Using-Amiberry-WHDBooter-with-RetroPie

From the kickstarts section of the guide, the kickstart roms should be placed in the BIOS folder, /home/pi/RetroPie/BIOS/. The two kickstart roms you will need are Kickstart 1.3 and Kickstart 3.1. There is no need to rename them as they are recognised by their checksums.

You shouldn't need to add the lha extension to es_systems.cfg as it should be added when installing Amiberry, unless you are using a custom es_systems.cfg in /opt/retropie/configs/all/emulationstation.

The name of the file I am using for SWOS is SensibleWorldOfSoccer9697_v1.7_0842.lha

If your controller doesn't work by default once you have SWOS running then try re-installing Amiberry from source.

Right. So i decided to uninstall Amiberry and start from the top, removing any lha files and kickstarts following @dudleydes post.

Now I am more stuck getting "It looks like your system configuration file has not been set up or is invalid"

Can I pinch one from the net somewhere? I am assuming its the es_systems.cfg file

This still didn't work. I am getting the same error some AROS text about APL and I stil lhad to add .lha and .zip in es_systems.cfg

@dirty_monkee Could you run the command below to check that Amiberry has created symlinks for your kickstart roms. I have given the output I get for my Kickstart 1.3 and Kickstart 3.1 roms.

                            pi@retropie:~ $ ls /opt/retropie/configs/amiga/amiberry/whdboot/save-data/Kickstarts/
                            foo.txt kick34005.A500 kick40068.A1200

If you don't get the above, could you verify your kickstart roms with an Online CRC32 Checker. You can find the expected values on this page.

Regards having to add the .lhaextension to es_systems.cfg, are you using a custom file in /opt/retropie/configs/all/emulationstation or are you referring to the one in /etc/emulationstation?

Kickstart rom Checksums are correct and match that link you gave.

                              I only have foo.txt in /opt/retropie/configs/amiga/amiberry/whdboot/save-data/Kickstarts/

/opt/retropie/configs/all/emulationstation contains no es_system.cfg so yeah the one in /etc/emulationstation

@dirty_monkee It seems that Amiberry isn't created the necessary symlinks for your kickstarts. Given your issue in having to edit es_systems.cfg, I would try installing Amiberry on a fresh image of RetroPie.

I think that’s my only option unfortunately.

                                  Will keep you updated.

While I was setting up a fresh install of retropie on my Pi I decided to have a play with my arcade again (the one running retropie on Ubuntu)

Having watched more videos and read instructions I managed to load and run with success SWOS by signing up to OAGd.net. Although I’m over the moon I can finally play again it would be nice to launch from retropie/emulation station. (Only running for fs-uae.

I feel like I’m making progress

@dirty_monkee I presume by "the same issue" you mean that symlinks to the Kickstart roms aren't being created in /opt/retropie/configs/amiga/amiberry/whdboot/save-data/Kickstarts/.

There is some troubleshooting guidance at the bottom of this page that's worth a try: https://github.com/midwan/amiberry/wiki/Using-Amiberry-WHDBooter-with-RetroPie-(Step-2).

If you are still having trouble, then it may be worth raising an issue at the Github page where one of the devs can advise.

Glad to hear that you managed to get SWOS running on your Ubuntu system. Taking up from your earlier post, I managed to get SWOS running in FS-UAE on my own Linux Mint machine. I can launch it using a shell script, avoiding the need to use the FS-UAE UI.

I created a text file, SWOS 96-97.sh in the FS-UAE folder and added the following contents:

                                        #!/bin/bash
                                        fs-uae --fullscreen --keep_aspect --amiga_model="A1200" --floppy_drive_0="Sensible World of Soccer '96-'97_Disk1.adf" --floppy_drive_1="Sensible World of Soccer '96-'97_Disk2.adf"

The two .adf files are are in a Floppies sub-directory. You may have to change the file names to match yours.

In a file manager, right-click on the file SWOS 96-97.sh, select the Permissions tab and check the box next to Allow executing file as program. Close the window. Double click the SWOS 96-97.sh file and select Run from the window that pops up.

If SWOS 96-97 launches using the shell script, then getting it to launch from ES is straightforward. Let me know how you get on with the script before we configure ES.

@dudleydes Ok.. so the text file just came up nothing about me running that script. My floppies in that folder are zips not adf. Although having unzipped and changed names in that script still didn’t work.

On my Pi I still can’t get this game to run. I’m getting the Amiberry logo come up with the Amiberry WHDload screen stating that “Volume DH0 is write protected” with retry or cancel.
