I searched the forum and I did not see any steps on how to setup and enable cheats in Mame4all, lr-mame2003 and FBA. May I ask for steps on how to enable cheats in these 3 emulators? I am using Retropie Vers 3.7 on a Pi Model 2 Model B. I am unable to get cheats working in either Mame4All or lr-mame2003. I have placed the cheat.dat in the rom folders for Mame4all and Mame2003. When I select the TAB button in Mame4All or lr-mame2003 I don’t see a cheat option. For example I found the below information online, but after following the steps, I still am unable to get it working.

      Cheats
lr-mame2003 supports the MAME cheat engine, allowing you to use the 'TAB' menu to enable various in-game cheats. To active these, there is a supplementary file that you need to transfer to your Pi, called cheat.dat. This file can be downloaded from http://cheat.retrogames.com/mame_downloads.htm. You need the version of the file that is equal-to or greater-than the MAME version in question, which in our case is 0.78, so the file needed is Cheat File for MAME 0.81 (Release Date: 21st April 2004). Extract cheat.dat from this .zip and place in: /home/pi/RetroPie/BIOS/mame2003/
Further to this, the 'enabled cheats' core option needs to be turned on via a setting in the retroarch-core-options.cfg file, found in: /opt/retropie/configs/all/
The option is: mame2003-cheats = enabled

Thanks in advance for any help or setup steps for cheats on Mame4all, lr-mame2003 and FBA.

the instructions are correct for lr-mame2003. there are no instructions for those other emulators so let's stick to 2003.

I have placed the cheat.dat in the rom folders for Mame4all and Mame2003

the instructions don't tell you to do this :) it's in a specific path in the bios folder.

please give the full path where you've put the file, and also paste the full contents of /opt/retropie/configs/all/retroarch-core-options.cfg

also, you'll possibly need to update lr-mame2003 is you're running 3.7. update to latest mame2003 binaries via the setup script.

Thank you for your helpful comments. I updated my Pi 2B to RetroPie 3.8.1. I corrected the directory for my cheat.dat to /home/pi/RetroPie/BIOS/mame2003/. Now under lr-mame2003 games cheats show up when I hit TAB during the game. Thank you.

Now the question is how do I setup cheats in Mame4all and FBA? For Mame4all do I place the cheat.dat file in /home/pi/RetroPie/BIOS/mame4all/? For FBA I was looking to install cheats for the Metal Slug Series. How do cheats work in FBA?
