Relation between EmulationStation and Retropie
-
Hello! I installed EmulationStation (without Retropie) on Ubuntu and I noticed that the standalone versione of ES is different to the one embedded in Retropie.
I'm talking about that on the standalone ES the controller configuration GUI has the following entries:
- BUTTON A / EAST
- BUTTON B / SOUTH
- BUTTON X / WEST
- BUTTON Y / NORTH
the Retropie version has
- A
- B
- X
- Y
The first one uses different svg logos and is more interesting to me. So I'm asking you: why ES looks different on Retropie? Does Retropie override some GUIs?
-
Probably depends on what versions you are using. I assume the version you are using on Retropie is from the stable branch, and the standalone version is the master branch which is also the dev branch and therefore has some extra features.
The svg files have been updated recently and are probably not yet merged into the stable branch.
The dev version has the button layout you mentioned and can be installed from the experimental section of the setup script. -
As. @EctoOne already explained you've installed the
dev
branch, while the RetroPie-Setup script has thestable
branch included. So the version you have right now has some new features.
Apart from what @EctoOne mentioned (and other modifications), there is also grid support for themes - you can test @ruckage's new Neogeo mini theme which makes use of this new feature. -
@mitu intereseting. So in the future these new features are gonna be in the stable version?

Yes, of course.
