EmulationStation - Noise in menu music.
-
I'm using a Raspberry Pi 3b and have an MP3 file playing in the background while in EmulationStation, but when i move around in the menues the music can't really keep up resulting in some crackling/popping noise. I don't think it's because of the theme i'm using as i've tried several. I understand that there's something that can't really keep up memory or processor-wise, but can one do something about it?
Thanks!

@redfarmer Try disabling the audio cues in Emulationstation, the problem might not be the memory/cpu, but the audio device being simultaneously used by two competing applications.
-
Thanks for advicing, but i'm not really sure what you mean with the audio cues? I've disabled the video snapshot sounds but that didn't do anything.
-
@redfarmer I meant to disable the navigational sounds in Emulationstations's from the Audio Settings menu.
-
Ah, ok. Thanks. I've tried that also but didn't help :(
Menu music works ok for everyone else? No lagging/stuttering while navigating?
-
@redfarmer The effect does only occur in ES and not in games?
If it's really because of memory problems, you may try to change ES' VRAM setting (under "other options" I think, I am not at home right now).
If you use the 3.5mm jack for sound output, you could try an experimental audio driver that fixed overall white noise on my Pi. You enable it by adding this line to your
/boot/config.txt
:audio_pwm_mode=2
But this only works on the 3.5mm jack and not on HDMI audio.

@Clyde said in EmulationStation - Noise in menu music.:
audio_pwm_mode=2
Yes, problem only exists in EmulationStation and not in games. It's only the menu music that is affected while moving around in the menus.
I tried playing around with the VRAM-setting but didn't notice any difference.
I am using the 3.5mm jack and tried adding audio_pwm_mode=2 to config.txt and rebooted but no difference at all :(
Thanks for advicing though.

Sorry for bumping my old thread but i still have the same problem. Music stutters when moving around in Emulationstation. If i hold my joystick to left or right in the main menu so it keeps scrolling through my systems then it stutters more and more until the music stops completely and need a reboot for the sound to come back.
I can't remember 100% but i believe that MPG123 is what is used for playing the background music.
