Built in scraper ES not working, windows 10 no match game
-
@mitu to get 2.8.0 do we need to update/install from rpi setup script (source only?) or direct download of source? I ran update last week and I am still on 2.7.6 but I did not choose from source only binary.
edit: nm I did from rpi setup script from source and it's still 2.7.6-rp, I assume build is from aloshi still and not jrassa.
-
@stoney66 This topic is about the @jdrassa's WIndows build. If you update on your Pi through the RetroPie-Setup script, you'll get the
2.7.6-rp
version, which is the stable branch from the RetroPie's Emulationstation repository. RetroPie doesn't use the 'official' (Aloshi's) version for quite some time. They're both based on the RetroPie's fork of ES, but from different branches. -
@mitu it says 2.7.4RP but I can't find where to actualize it. as I have 2.7.4RP with the one from the continuous Build from https://github.com/jrassa/EmulationStation/releases/
i am not seeing something?
sorry for the trouble and thanks for the help in any caseI also tried from the Continuous build (continuous-master) and with that I have 2.8.0RP-DEV and also the scraper doesn't find any match
-
@otaolafr I don't expect
2.7.4RP
to have a functional scraper due to the changes on the thegamesdb.net site, but2.8.0rp-dev
works fine. I scraped a few games and I didn't have any error. You problem is either that the games are not found on the thegamesdb.net site or there's other problem (firewall ? antivirus ?).
What games are you trying to scrape and are not found online by the scraper ? Can you give a few examples ? Emulationstation keeps a log file in its configuration folder (.emulationstation/es_log.txt
), you could look there to search for obvious errors. -
@mitu okey, i made it work (well more like you made it work, i cant tell you how much i appretiate it :D), i have succed to scrape my roms from GBA, i am haven only one problem its not the original problem but maybe if it not so much trouble you could help me,
it is with four games,
breath of fire
breath of fire II
metroid fusion
metroid zero mision;
actually can scrape them but each time i scrape one of the pair the two of them show scraped but when i re initialise (even quiting by start/quit/quit emulation station/yes) the next time i open ES the one that i didnt scraped the last time is no more scraped.
EG: i open ES BofF 1 is scraped, BofF 2 no, i use scraper, scrape BofF 2 correctly, i have the two of them correctly scraped with the correct information, i quit ES, wait a little bit of time and when i re open ES no Bof 2 is going to be scraped but BofF 1 not anymore....
i can imagine that is a problem with the names of the games as they are really similar, but any solution? ( the original files .GBA i tried calling them breath of fire and breath of fire II or breath of fire 2 without succes....)also with some other games like pokemon gold and silver.
-
@otaolafr OK, glad you got the scraping working fine - thanks to @jdrassa's builds.
For you other problem, can't say I've seen this. Can you post yourgamelist.xml
for GBA on pastebin.com to take a look ? -
@mitu yes of course! thanks a lot for all the help!
https://pastebin.com/Xataupy8
in this game list is the one that was created with the breath of fire 1 not scraped (that was erased form last scrap of breath of fire II) -
@otaolafr I don't see a problem with the gamelist, both games show they have an image and they have different descriptions

@mitu dont know what to say....
i tried erasing the gamelist and only tried with three games,
BofF1, BofF2, and another one and scraped the three, when i opened the gamelist.xml it had only BofF2 (after quiting in the correct way ES) and i repeated and scraped BofF1 (again) and close and when i went back to the gamelist the BofF2 information disapeared compleatly, as i made a copy of the first file i recover the information of BofF2 and put it in the new one and saved and now it works.... but i needed to do it manually as each time the other game was erased from the gamelist file when the other one was entered and the game closed. -
@otaolafr I don't think your problem is related to ES. ES doesn't delete games from the gamelist when the game isn't scraped and on startup ES always reads the files in the system's folder and adds them to the gamelist according to extention.
Do you haveParse Gamelist only
turned on ? -
@mitu oh i tried the parse gamelist only and now i understand what you understood from my old post,
i didnt meant that ES was eraising the rom, actually the two of them show in the GBA section when i have parse games only turned off, what i meant is that ES erase the information (the one i got from scraping it) of the second game each time i scrap the other one. like i open ES and i have BofF 1 scraped with images and all info and BofF 2 without any info, i scrap, i succesfully scrap BofF 2, so, i enter the GBA and have the two games with all the metadata , i quit ES, and when i re open it only BofF 2 has the metadata and BofF 1 has nothing. and each time it does for the other one. sorry for maybe not expressing myself correctly -
@otaolafr hi I’m having same problem my ES scrapper for herb fargus portable game station stopped working I added the new jrassa updated build the first one on the releases page released 11 days ago and now it kinda wants to work trying to scrape but still doesn’t work how can I make it work and another issue is how do I update retroarch from 1.5 to the newest for the windows portable game station by herb fargus i tried updating retroarch as shown on YouTube videos but it crashes when ES is opened so I need to fix these 2 issues can you or anyone help thanks in advance.
-
@arcee84 Emulationstation's built-in scraper doesn't work right now - it's the 1st pinned topic in the help section. For RA problem, try deleting your
retroarch.cfg
and start RA standalone at fist, so it will create the default configuration file. -
@mitu what do you mean by starting stand-alone how do I update ra first of all.
-
@arcee84 You update it like you installed it the first time - download a release from the libtretro.com site, unpack it and then run
retroarch.exe
. -
@mitu do I override the files in herb fargus 1.5 portable game station retroarch folder with the newest one.
-
@mitu also how do I delete my account on here this forum chat
-
@arcee84 I think that may be up to the @administrators - they can remove your account.
-
@arcee84 I will remove. I would recommend not signing up in the future to forums if you're going to make a few posts then ask for the account to be removed. It's a waste of your time and mine.
