Need Help with CPS1,2,3 Please??
-
Hey everyone,
Im having a bit trouble...
i know mame2003 uses .78 romset so ive been trying to find cps1,2 and 3 with the 0.78 roms
but i cant find it??
am i doing it wrong?
can anyone help me out here cause i really want to get this working..
all the cps i find online it doesnt tell me what romset it came from =/ so im confused... -
@RetroFreak89 I doubt you will find it split like that. You can't just download an arcade ROM and expect it to work. Also - this forum is not the place for help finding ROMs - read the rules. All the information about romsets is in the documentation.
-
mame 0.78 does not include cps3, for a start.
-
@dankcushions ok but mame .78 is the only one that will work right now? so im guessing cps wont work at all then? which sux
@BuZz i know how arcade roms work and im not asking where to get them i know this already i know fba is 0.2.97.43 and mame is mame 0.78 thats not what im asking tho im asking about cps 1-3 the roms that are inside that comes from where??
as in does it come from the 0.78 set or the fba one or what?
i have no idea how to get it to work and the retropie site is no help i looked and read it like 20times i cant get it to work... -

No, please read the Arcade section form the docs to see what arcade emulators are available in RetroPie.

@mitu i did lol ok ill do it again ill open up the arcade section and read it im not getting what to do with cps tho
it did explain about fba,and mame thats how i learned about it but still stuck on cps.. ill let you knowedit: ok here https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/wiki/Arcade
it just explains fba and mame i already know about those it says nothing about CPS -
@RetroFreak89 assuming you have a pi3, the table gives you a recommended MAME emulator (lr-mame2003), and a recommended FBA emulator (lr-fbalpha). now, you know that cps3 isn't supported by lr-mame2003's romset (MAME 0.78), but what about lr-fbalpha's (FBA 0.2.97.43)? i'll give you a clue: it is :)

I know that some people maybe annoyed by my recommendation for AdvanceMame, but....give it a try too.
I am a Mame Freak for 21 years now and had of course better results with the Windows-Derivats, but since i am addicted to Retropie on a Raspberry Pi i managed to get 1379 Roms working with AdvanceMame, which is based on 0.106.
There are some games like my beloved BuggyBoy, that wont run (AFAIR it doesnt on all Mames available for the Pi), but the majority of great games do run.
Including all CPS1, most of the CPS2 and eben the most important CPS3-Games.
Streetfighter III, Jojo Bizarre Adventure and Warzard to name them.
Flawlessy, much better than other MAME-Derivats for the Pi imo.
Once you choose AdvanceMame you'll never turn back 😊 -
@sirhenrythe5th It depends on your preferences. For my part, I like the convenience of RetroArch's centralised settings in next to all of my emulators, with Daphne and AdvMAME being the rare exeptions. Thus, mame2003(-plus) is my first choice in Retropie, with AdvMAME being the fallback for some games.
And since mame2003 and -plus got a patch for improved vector graphics, one main reason for me to use AdvMAME in some games is gone, too.
That said, you don't annoy me at all with your recommendations. 😊 Thanks to Retropie, changing emulators on the fly is wonderfully easy, and since mame2003 is the default, many users may have never heard of AdvMAME as an option, especially for games that won't work well or at all on mame2003(-plus).

@Clyde thank you for your reply.
And i do unterstand the point that lr-mame of course is much easier to handle with the preset retroarch-configurations.
As i mentioned my first touch with MAME was back in 1997, so i am used to edit Mame by the infamous TAB-Menue, so it is not new to me or even an disadvantage.
In fact i remap the input for a lot of games, using the Shoulder-Buttons for Pinballs or Gear-Shifting in Racing-games and so on, so i dont need the retroarch presets.
Of course i could remap them also per-game in Retroarch but imo this is more complex.
But as you said: everyone has got his favs and so shall it be.
In the end what counts is that MAME is awesome and works great on a Pi. Nethertheless which Version you use 😊
Kind regards!
