@mitu master doesn't keep the volume up. I'll try and go into the settings you refer to later tonight. But won't I run into the same issues where I can't see the code because of my free monitor?
-
@ucald4amarine If you're having trouble with the monitor, I suggest you set up SSH and work from your PC over the network.

Are you pressing ok after changing it?
-
@mitu hadn't considered that. I'll do that next. Thanks!
-
@rbaker yes pressing ok. After I exit I load it back up and then check again and it's all the way down.

@ucald4amarine everything is working! Sounds great. Plays great. Now I've just got to make one more adjustment... Then build 3 more... And set the menu to something a little more fun than the stock menu, and lock it all so my brothers can't mess it all up... Side note and random bit of something I just learned. On some games, it needs a 2nd count button for the 2nd player. To indicate money is being put in from that player only.

I'm pretty sure there's a setting in mame where you can get it to just work off 1 coin slot. I'm sure after you insert the second coin it can be set up so that it then switches to 2 player. It might depend on each game, possibly in the form of a dip switch that you can set. I'm not in front of my machine at present, so can't say for certain but have a look around the settings in mame
-
@ballboff well, the issue is that for some games, (example, metal slug.) You can indeed do just that. Have one coin button, and the 2 player button works. But some games. (The Simpsons.) We're set up with 4 controls in their arcade. And you had to put your coin in where you were standing. I believe the same goes for games such as rampage.
-
you could also just bind one button to P1, 2, 3, etc insert coin. probably possible via the TAB menu.
-
@dankcushions this is true. But as these are meant to go to people such as my brothers. Who like me, grew up playing, but, (as hard as this may sound, this next statement is 150% true...) Who have even less electrical, mechanical, or software skills as I do. I think the safer route to go would be to just add another button and Mark it as the player 2 count button. Anything that I do to add confusion, such as telling them to exit or save or add a 2nd count via a combination of keys or buttons, is a bad idea. I was browsing through the interface and came upon the child safety lock and the interface lock on the UI. And I instantly recognized the konomi code as the unlock feature. But I can safely say, they have neither seen nor heard of that before. And would not know what to do if I told them.
Side note, haven't searched this out myself. But figured I might as well ask this here. Would it be smart to overclock the pie a bit? Only ask as on games such as metal slug slow down at times. I remember it did that even on the arcade I played. But it does seem off to me.

@dankcushions in your opinion. Is the rewards worth the risk? I want planning on adding any kind of cooling setup other than the stock heat sinks. And didn't really want to have to worry about replacing the unit in 6 months. Unless of course raspberry 4 comes out.
-
@ucald4amarine the guide i linked to involves 'overclocking' the emulated neogeo CPU, NOT your raspberry pi's CPU. overclocking your raspberry pi's cpu would nothing for metal slug since as far as the emulator is concerned, it's running exactly as it would on real hardware. faster metal slug can only be achieved by changing emulator settings, as per the link.
i wouldn't recommend overclocking you pi's CPU unless you have a specific reason to, and most people don't.
-
@dankcushions just reread the link. I missed the part where it said it was game specific. When I read CPU I thought it was for the pie itself. This information definitely simplifies my life. Once again, I am indebted to you, and everyone else who has been so helpful to me. If it wasn't for all of you, this project would have been a complete waste of my time and money. Now, thanks to all of your support. (And most likely future support.) This will indeed be a very fun Christmas.

Ok yeah gauntlet being another one, and some of the x-men games. You could set it up so that it was a combo, so you could hit your select button and button 1 for coin insert player one, select button and button 2 to insert player 2, that way you're using the same button, but a combination of 3 buttons instead of 1 button. But yeah, the easiest solution is to put in another couple of buttons, you can place them near the back of the machine if you're worried about them being accidentally hit during play...

Oh darn. I accidentally put a quarter into the machine during my righteous arcade flailing. XD

@ballboff I'm in the process of building 2 more right now. With the first one I've learned so much as to what I want to improve on. But this 2nd one im going to just add more buttons. Simplify it for my brothers. I'll rework it for my personal machine at some point. But there is so much I wish I had done. Such as adding a easy access us port.

Ha, every build I've done I've been like "oh this one will be much simpler and I wish I'd done that, and I'm gonna do this". I was right, I followed it through, but I kinda think there's always room for improvement and as technology moves on and/or you learn more, you then want to incorporate those new found skills in your next build. My first build was a single core pentium pc and that was probably the most reliable, it was certainly a lot more powerful than a pi. I've even used one of those cheap knock-off arcade boards with a proper arcade power supply to host everything. But every build has got smaller, so it's made more sense to go down the pi route, especially when you can power the pi, controls and screen off a single 5 volt power supply. But hey, I digress. What's the point of building these things unless you're gonna learn a thing or two along the way huh?
-
mame by default should be mapping controller 2 select to add a coin for p2. you could change the setting in the tab menu (input general) to coin up all 4 players with player1 select though
-
@ballboff here's what I've got so far for the first 2 of 3 builds. Probably more to follow.
