Would it be smart to overclock the pie a bit? Only ask as on games such as metal slug slow down at times. I remember it did that even on the arcade I played. But it does seem off to me.

-
@dankcushions in your opinion. Is the rewards worth the risk? I want planning on adding any kind of cooling setup other than the stock heat sinks. And didn't really want to have to worry about replacing the unit in 6 months. Unless of course raspberry 4 comes out.
-
@ucald4amarine the guide i linked to involves 'overclocking' the emulated neogeo CPU, NOT your raspberry pi's CPU. overclocking your raspberry pi's cpu would nothing for metal slug since as far as the emulator is concerned, it's running exactly as it would on real hardware. faster metal slug can only be achieved by changing emulator settings, as per the link.
i wouldn't recommend overclocking you pi's CPU unless you have a specific reason to, and most people don't.
-
@dankcushions just reread the link. I missed the part where it said it was game specific. When I read CPU I thought it was for the pie itself. This information definitely simplifies my life. Once again, I am indebted to you, and everyone else who has been so helpful to me. If it wasn't for all of you, this project would have been a complete waste of my time and money. Now, thanks to all of your support. (And most likely future support.) This will indeed be a very fun Christmas.

@ballboff well, the issue is that for some games, (example, metal slug.) You can indeed do just that. Have one coin button, and the 2 player button works. But some games. (The Simpsons.) We're set up with 4 controls in their arcade. And you had to put your coin in where you were standing. I believe the same goes for games such as rampage.
Ok yeah gauntlet being another one, and some of the x-men games. You could set it up so that it was a combo, so you could hit your select button and button 1 for coin insert player one, select button and button 2 to insert player 2, that way you're using the same button, but a combination of 3 buttons instead of 1 button. But yeah, the easiest solution is to put in another couple of buttons, you can place them near the back of the machine if you're worried about them being accidentally hit during play...

Oh darn. I accidentally put a quarter into the machine during my righteous arcade flailing. XD

@ballboff I'm in the process of building 2 more right now. With the first one I've learned so much as to what I want to improve on. But this 2nd one im going to just add more buttons. Simplify it for my brothers. I'll rework it for my personal machine at some point. But there is so much I wish I had done. Such as adding a easy access us port.

Ha, every build I've done I've been like "oh this one will be much simpler and I wish I'd done that, and I'm gonna do this". I was right, I followed it through, but I kinda think there's always room for improvement and as technology moves on and/or you learn more, you then want to incorporate those new found skills in your next build. My first build was a single core pentium pc and that was probably the most reliable, it was certainly a lot more powerful than a pi. I've even used one of those cheap knock-off arcade boards with a proper arcade power supply to host everything. But every build has got smaller, so it's made more sense to go down the pi route, especially when you can power the pi, controls and screen off a single 5 volt power supply. But hey, I digress. What's the point of building these things unless you're gonna learn a thing or two along the way huh?

mame by default should be mapping controller 2 select to add a coin for p2. you could change the setting in the tab menu (input general) to coin up all 4 players with player1 select though
-
@ballboff here's what I've got so far for the first 2 of 3 builds. Probably more to follow.

Mitu, Im having some issues again. And based off of what Ive seen in my searches, it looks like youve had some dealings with scrapers. So Im hoping you can help me out, once again.
Ive been able to scrap art for background purposes using the stock scraper. But I wanted video for the screensavers. But... When I try to go through the helpful walkthrough for installing the Stephens Self Scraper, I hit a deadline. I believe it may have to do with the fact that in the walkthrough, its based off of version 4.2.10, and Im currently running 4.4.4
(
Everything goes great all the way up till I press F4 and need to type in the command line. ( Sudo~/RetroPie-Setup/retropie_setup.sh )
I am able to type it correctly, despite utilizing an American Style keyboard. But im given an error message instead of a confirmation. Ive gone through this multiple times and cannot find an error. And Im not seeing anything in my searches that addresses this for this version. Thoughts? Thank you for your time. -
sudo should be all lower case and there should be a space between sudo and ~
-
@ucald4amarine What @jakejm79 said, and please put commands etc. in backticks (`) to make them more readable.
example
Multiple lines can be put into code blocks with three backticks (```) before and after them.
like this
And please quote any error messages instead of just saying that there were error messages.
Just some friendly advice how you can help the helpers in helping you. :)
-
@jakejm79 really?! Missed that... I'll try that again. Thanks!
-
@Clyde ahh... I'm sorry. Still learning alot. Have a long ways to go.
-
Just a heads up, everything seems to be working great. Excepting for the scraped videos. Screensaver still not correct for some reason. But ill tackle it again in a bit. Not right now... The machines both function perfectly other than that. And except for the screensavers, and adding a whole lot more games, I think they are pretty much ready for gifting!

Hi folks. Me again. Having trouble with the SSh transfer. Ive enabled SSH, and my pie is connected to the internet via wifi. My pc is connected via wifi as well. My pi, I am able to do things online such as download splash screens, download backgrounds, etc. But I cannot find it on my network on my desktop. And Win SCP cant find it either. Im not sure what else to say to describe the situation. Ideas?
-
Just get the ip from retropie menu
-
@grant2258 Ive been doing that. But in this Win SCP program, it pops up with a Login box, and I cant find a section to type the IP address in. Am I missing a section?
-
@ucald4amarine It wont let me do anything outside of the Login box.
