Did Fix-It Felix ever happen?

@herb_fargus There are two Megadrive versions I know of - one fairly primitive one and a more professional one by Airwalk, but which forces you through about 90 seconds of unskippable intro cutscene before EVERY SINGLE GAME, which needs to get right in the sea.
It's basically a Megadrive conversion of this:
On the PC there's a Flash one, but also a really good standalone Windows .EXE that mimics a Kong-era arcade machine booting up. That'd be the one to emulate/port/whatever.
-
Airwalk studios is probably the best you'll get as things stand. Since it wasnt ever an actual arcade game I'm dubious it would ever end up being part of something like mame
-
It was an "actual" arcade game but did however run on Windows, so yes, it won't probably ever be MAME'able.
-
@RedFarmer >It was an "actual" arcade game
Semantics. No PCB, no offficial production past 2 marketing prototypes, not an arcade
But I'd sure love one in my front room...

If you press the 'B' button while starting a game, it cuts through some of the animation to the building construction scene. It still takes some time to get through, but it's an improvement. I have a button combo mapped to fast-forward for just these types of occasions. This issue really is a shame, as it's the only tell that the game was not professionally developed. What's more, the full wrecking animation always plays between each round and wastes even more time on Felix tripping to his temporary death when entering the scene, which wasn't ever shown to be part of the game in the film.
Something else to keep in mind, the Airwalk Studios version is a direct port of the mobile phone version of the game, which was the only version available for comparison when the homebrew projects were being developed. The Windows-based "arcade" version of the game was released sometime later after the film had been released and is also the basis for the recent 'Arcade Classics' mini cabinet release. Both have their differences from the film version, but the Windows version seems to be a fair bit closer. Personally, I prefer the mobile game and the games based off of it, due to the steadier progression of difficulty.

@mediamogul I just use a post-intro save state on the Megadrive version, it's a lot quicker :)
Shame that Retropie doesn't have any kind of Windows launcher core, though. Guess we'll just have to hope someone does a Pi port one day - maybe the sequel having just come out will re-spark some interest.

Even better. Of course fast forward is still a Godsend for moving past the lengthy animation between rounds.
Edit: It also just occurred to me that using a save state can potentially wipe out any high score you manage to set between sessions, but that drawback may be worth it in this particular case.

Seeing that Steam Link was merged just a few hours ago, this should allow the Windows version of 'Fix-it Felix Jr.' to be played on the Pi without much hassle. Granted it'll be streaming from a Windows PC, but in all likelihood it may be the only way this particular game and anything like it will ever be playable on the Pi.

Obviously I'm wise to that :D If I beat my high score I make a new save state.

Am very much looking to someone somewhere posting a "How to add Steam Link to Retropie for dummies" guide...
