Every time i try to edit the file I get this error that says [ Error reading lock file ./.es_systems.cfg.swp: Not enough data read ]

I have tried restarting, updating and upgrading everything, uninstallng and reinstalling nano, deleting the file and then copying the es_systems.cfg.bak to a new es_systems.cfg (Emulation station was working before I did that, now it displays an error message that it cant find any systems when i boot) i can view the file in cat and vi (which i dont want to use to edit it because i cant for the life of me ever figure out what im doing).

I dont understand whats happening, i can edit other files with nano, and i have 20 gb of free space. could something be corrupted?
