Favourites Backup Methods

Hi all,
I know favourites are handled via individual game metadata, so there's no file or folder in the system that you can easily backup.
But does anyone have any methods for a work around? How do you backup your favourites in case you need to reinstall your img for example?
My brother and I have a RP of our own and work together to improve it and install new features so when we update, we do so together. However we always have different favourites so one of us has to start their list again.
I'm at the point where I'm just going to start writing them all down, but just wanted to check no one else had any other ideas before I started that.
