Player 1 stuck on keyboard. No keyboard with me

Hey All,
I'm visiting my wife's family in the Philippines. There are a lot of young kids here so i bought Pi and put retropie on it for them. Before i left my home country everything was working.
On the hot key menu i left player on as keyboard.
Now that I'm in the Philippines. I'm unable to change the input when launching the game. I can use the controllers fine in emulation station. But as soon as i launch a game it defaults to keyboard. No matter what ports I put the controller.
What can i do without a pc and without a keyboard to change player 1 to joypad?
If it helps keyboard is default player on in the hot key menu when the game is launched
