Ubuntu 16.04 - Retroarch crashes with the gl driver
-
The system is an Ubuntu 16.04.6, 64 bit, with Retropie 4.4.8 and Retroarch 1.7.6.
The problem is that I can't use shaders because by default the Retropie was installed with sdl2 as video driver and if I change to the gl, by core config or Retroarch config in the retropie menu or the text file, the game crashes on a black screen with no sound as soon as the game start and the only way to turn back to the Emulationstation is killing the Retroarch process.
The curious fact is that I installed a standalone Retroarch 1.7.6 via snap and it works fine with gl driver and shaders.
I partialy tried the solution in this topic and doesn't worked for me, one time that I can't downgrade the drivers currently installed, but I changed to false the
video_threaded
and the problem persists.Logs:
Using sdl2
Using glDespite showing that it did not find the rom, in sdl2 the game ran well.
-
Disable
threaded_video
in the RetroArch configuration and try again using thegl
driver. -
@mitu said in Ubuntu 16.04 - Retroarch crashes with the gl driver:
threaded_video
I tried this after see the suggestion in another topic, but not worked for me.

@well_marques Are you sure you disabled the setting ? In the log file I still see
[INFO] [Video]: Starting threaded video driver ...
Can you post the contents of the
retroarch.cfg
file, from/opt/retropie/configs/all
to pastebin.com ? -
@mitu I probably altered some other configuration that was interfering with the solution. I have modified many configurations trying to solve this problem. After putting everything to default, video driver to gl and
video_threaded = "false"
the problem has been solved. Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks for your patience. -
@well_marques It's good you sorted out. If you're just starting with RetroPie on Ubuntu, it might be better to use a more recent version of the distro - 18.04 LTS or 18.10.
-
@mitu As the 16.04 still has support until 2021 I will still keep with it a little bit and continue reading the comments, if in a while there is nothing very negative about the 18.04 I upgrade. Even because this pc is an old Dual-Core Celeron that I use as a retro console and to watch some videos.
