Rebuild Folders for Roms
-
Hello:
I am so sorry if this has been posted and I was unable to find it.
Is there a way to ask Retropie to rebuild the ROMs folder/sub-folders adding in all the systems that are missing or accidentally renamed?
I know I could do a fresh install and copy them from there but I was hoping there was a command to do this.
Thank you,

@battlecat The list of systems/folders depends on your installed emulators. I think an update for all emulators (or update for all installed RetroPie packages) would run the folder creation again, so you could try that to restore the correct folders names. Note that this will not restore any content you might have had there (ROMs, saves, artwork, etc.)

@mitu Thanks for answering.
I am actually running the update process at this time and have my fingers crossed. It seems to be a slow build process.
I realized that any roms or graphics/video I had would be lost but that is okay.
Usually what happens is I don't stop and think and I delete a whole folder say mame-advmame instead of just roms and supplemental images.
I'll test it and left you know what happens to me.
Thanks,

@battlecat The update will not delete any of your existing ROM folders.

@mitu Right.
For an example let us say that I accidentally deleted my folder called mame-libretro or snes. I am hoping that running the ./Retropie_Setup.sh and selecting "Update" >> "Are you sure you want to update installed packages?" >>"YES". Will restore to factory default any missing folders.

@battlecat I believe this is what I said in my first post.

I am not sure but I feel, as someone who tinkers a lot, that this would be a great option to have the folders rebuild without having to run the whole update process.

@battlecat Sure there is , it's called 'backup' :).

@mitu Chuckle yes I know. ;)

@mitu So, It appears that doing an update recreates the folder I was missing. It took a long time to update but that is because it was from source for many packages it appears.
I did an image install on a spare SD card and copied the ROMS folder to an external drive as a backup of the folder structure. Just in case I need to refer to it again.
Thanks for the help and suggestions.
