I've built 4 Bartop in the past. Have never had a problem. All my buttons are led and work when trying to map them. The second I press the joystick up or down, all buttons flash for a second and then I can't map any buttons after that. Everything just stops working. Wondering if anyone knows whats going on and how to potentially fix? Have never had this problem before.

Maybe you should double-check your wiring for shorts. To be sure it's not a software issue you could maybe write a new RetroPie image (maybe on another card?) and see if you get the same problem.

@FakedPotato with no information given, it's hard to help. https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first
Maybe post the config files that you have created? What controller? Power Supply? Wiring diagrams? Photographs?
