Edit: I just get a Sammy splash screen, then a totally grey screen, and then a colourful horizontal bar appears across that screen about two thirds of the way down. Has anyone got this game to work?
Delete your eeproms for this game, they should be named
samsptk.zip.nvmem
andsamsptk.zip.nvmem2
, and located wherever your savefiles are supposed to be (i think retropie is storing them in a subfolder of the rom folder), that shit happens from time to time when booting atomiswave games for the first time.
Also, i heard the pi4 gpu is notoriously bad at emulating samsho 6 (while other sbc like odroid n2 have no issues running it at fullspeed with upscaling).lr-reicast doesn't exist, it was renamed lr-flycast a long time ago.
Okay, thanks for the tip! I guess if it is running poorly anyway, I won't bother (although I say that, and curiousity will get better of me and I will try it).
Are there any other good Atomiswave fighters apart from Guilty Gear?
Thanks on the lr-reicast point, I was confused.
Edit: The nvmem deletion worked! Superb tip. They were in the roms/Atomiswave folder, for the record.

@AdamBeGood Have you tried King of Fighters?

King of Fighters XI? I have it to try but haven't given it a real go yet.
I just tried changing Alpha Sorting to Per Strip and I think Samurai Shodown is playable.... Sorry please have a look and tell me if I'm wrong, I'm not very familiar with the game.
-
@AdamBeGood I was on the fastest setting (whichever one that is) and it ran slowly.
King of Fighters XI is pretty good I think, let me know what you think.

Specifically for Atomiswave, The Rumble Fish 1 and 2.

@barbudreadmon I'm pretty sure frameskip was on when I tried it. It just feels broken.
Having said that I'm still in awe at flycast's performance, it's the only game I could find that did not work properly.Metal Slug 6 goes a bit mad on the first big boss.

-
@AdamBeGood I think it happens every time with every ROM.
Also I've never played a single game of Metal Slug on any platform that didn't have some slowdown in some form or other ^^

Hahaha I am aware of that being a feature but this is beyond the usual lag!
-
@AdamBeGood Is your pi overclocked?
I did not see any slowdown while playing Atomiswave, but then again I did not play for very long.
Also there are options in lr-flycast that improve performance. -

If you overclock the emulator cpu (not to be confused with overclocking the pi) to 200
Then the slowdown in the early Metal Slug games is gone.
Remember, the original games had slowdown in the arcade ... if you're a purist, then leave the emulator at the default cpu setting, if you want the slowdown gone, then overclock it.

Grab the Sony PSP version of Metal Slug anthology ... Metal Slug 6 plays perfectly, no slowdown particularity on the 1st Boss which the lr-flycast struggles with.
Example: the boss below suffers no slowdown in the PSP version but does using the naomi version using lr-flycast

I did not see any slowdown while playing Atomiswave,
Metal Slug 6 starts out fine ... until the 1st boss (see my previous posts above)
-
@ReadyPlayaWon I wonder how many parts of the game there are like that? I might give it a playthrough and see if they are the massive minority of the game.
That first boss is pretty awful slowdown wise though.
I didn't know about overclocking the emulators on the Neogeo games, that is good to know although I am happy with the original slowdown.

it slows down a lot of times the further you get into the game.
like i said, the PSP Anthology version of Metal Slug 6 runs great and haven't seen any slowdown.

If you overclock the emulator cpu (not to be confused with overclocking the pi) to 200
Be careful not to do it globally, or you end up breaking lots of games. Tbh it's recommended to not overclock at all (and certainly not to 200, which is a sure way to break some games) and to use the "turbo" clones which doesn't have those slowdowns (well, i say that but i think only
mslug2
has such a clone, namedmslug2t
).mslug6
's slowdowns on first boss aren't intended (they don't exist on arcade cabinet), it's just your gpu which is struggling. -
Well, i've only overclocked the Metal Slug games, i didn't go silly and do every game ;) ... it hasn't broken the Metal Slug at at 200, so i'm happy with that.
Using the Arcade versions (no clones) of Melal Slug with lr-fbneo.
i mentioned the slowdown on the earlier games Metal Slug 1, 2, 3 etc which did happen in the arcade on Neo Geo hardware.
Was not referring to Metal Slug 6 on Arcade Atomiswave hardware. Which i know full well ...the game the game is not intended to slowdown.
Sorry for the confusion.
