Sega Naomi in lr-reicast
-
Well, i've only overclocked the Metal Slug games, i didn't go silly and do every game ;) ... it hasn't broken the Metal Slug at at 200, so i'm happy with that.
Using the Arcade versions (no clones) of Melal Slug with lr-fbneo.
i mentioned the slowdown on the earlier games Metal Slug 1, 2, 3 etc which did happen in the arcade on Neo Geo hardware.
Was not referring to Metal Slug 6 on Arcade Atomiswave hardware. Which i know full well ...the game the game is not intended to slowdown.
Sorry for the confusion.

I wonder how many parts of the game there are like that? I might give it a playthrough and see if they are the massive minority of the game.
it slows down a lot of times the further you get into the game.
like i said, the PSP Anthology version of Metal Slug 6 runs great and haven't seen any slowdown.
I haven't got PSP Emulation working yet...maybe now is the time.
Or maybe I'll just wait, it'll be a good marker in the future as to if lr-flycast is running in future updates. I have a lot of games to play already also.

@AdamBeGood PSP emulation is a treat on the pi 4, I recommend it.

For those NAOMI roms that have a .zip file and a folder containing other files, is it possible to stop ES from displaying those folders at all?

I mark files I don't want as Hidden on Emulation Station and then have Kiosk mode on. If I am tinkering I turn it off. There may be more elegant solutions available!
If all files are hidden in a directory, then that directory doesn't appear on ES.
Ps. I have PSP emulation going on now, couldn't resist. May need a bigger SD card.
-
@AdamBeGood That's a lot of files to mark as hidden, but thanks for the suggestion.
Get an external hard drive! 2 TB is barely enough for me ^^

can you give me an example of the kind of files that you'd want hidden? if they're BIOS type files, it's possible the filenames could be added to a list similar to https://github.com/RetroPie/EmulationStation/blob/master/resources/mamebioses.xml - so they can be automatically hidden.
but if each naomi game just has a bunch of unique supplementary zip files, then that's less easy to justify adding to such lists.

@dankcushions Some NAOMI games, like Border Down or Under Defeat, have .chd files in folders. Without them, the games don't launch (but naturally you launch them from the .zip file).
I suppose I could just remove the extension from my es_systems.cfg entry, having said that. I distinctly remember having folders full of files with numbers for extension, but I've been updating all my ROM sets so I suppose it is possible I've changed that one too ^^ -
@Zering if it's .chd that's tricky, as dreamcast emulators themselves support standalone chds, so you couldn't really differentiate between the two by default. i think manually hiding is the way in this case, but yeah if you never use CHDs normally then you could remove .chd from your .cfg.
-
@dankcushions Luckily that doesn't concern me, my dreamcast set is all cdi for now and I have a separate entry for NAOMI.
-
There's a few options to hide the Naomi CHD files.
You could edit es_systems.cfg for dreamcast. Since it sets allowable file extensions to .chd and .CHD, remove .CHD, and rename all the Naomi CHD files to use uppercase CHD as the extension. Then regular Dreamcast chds will appear, and Naomi ones won't.
Another option, and one I prefer, is to sort Naomi and Atomiswave games into the Arcade folder, and add lr-flycast as an Arcade core. You can find instructions for doing that here: https://www.reddit.com/r/RetroPie/comments/f04z8l/how_to_add_lrflycast_as_an_arcade_emulator/ The Arcade system in ES only supports .zip files by default, so you wouldn't be able to see the Naomi CHD files anyway, just like MAME CHD files.

@G30FF thank you for all the suggestions!

I updated lr-flycast from source and this broke my working naomi games.
Did this happen to someone else at some point?
Any idea if some changes to flycast has been made that might break old naomi setups?RetroPie Version 4.5.14 (f541deb) (current master)
RPi4It just happend to me.. Did you fixed it, and how??
