HD Mode 7 mod for bsnes: https://www.reddit.com/r/emulation/comments/bdltmo/hd_mode_7_mod_for_bsnes_v1071_beta_1/
Example: http://www.framecompare.com/image-compare/screenshotcomparison/EB9CNNNU (mouse over on the top tabs to switch between images)Someone made a mod for bsnes to bring higher resolution in mode 7 of snes games. The images look just less jaggy and correctly resolved and looks natural. byuu, the creator of higan and bsnes wants this integrated into main bsnes. And as I understand, this works universally for all games in mode 7 mode, so no game specific edits. For us Raspberry Pi users, this will most likely not be relevant, but RetroPie also works on PC.

I was wondering about this too. Running Retropie on an Intel NUC should easily be able to handle this and the list of games it would affect are many of the best of the SNES system.

Considering bsnes/higan already needs some decent cpu, and this kind of feature is generally cpu intensive, your statement might be a bit too optimistic for low & mid-range NUC.

A decent NUC (non-pentium, celeron, atom) CPU ~should~ be fine for this, or something similar.
Also i found this post while going through that reddit feed. Seems someone linked linux binaries for us to try out a few posts down, but i dont have time to do so at the moment:
