Installing Daphne in retropie
-
Trying to install Daphne emulator on retropie 4.4. I have downloaded what I believed was the necessary iso file of dla.zip which I found when googling Dragon's Lair 20th anniversary dvd as recommended by ETA prime in his tutorial. I have installed daphne and tired to load the zip file which I placed in the roms folder but for some reason it won't recognise it as being a compatible disc. It gives me the option to manually select the folder of the disc but when I select the rom folder it just does nothing. The file I am using is 7.8gb and I have not been able to find another one that appears to be the same thing. Not sure if what is happening is because I am attempting to load the wrong file or some other reason. Any help is appreciated.

That is the wrong file format . You need the dvd iso to create a video file using the daphne installer/launcher on pc. Then the files it creates you can use on your Rpi.
Daphne does not use iso format.
You will need the video file & a seperate audio file for each game.
You also need a frame file per game
You also need the ziped rom files too.Look here this may be more help to you

So given that the file that I have is 7.8gb and therefore too big to burn the iso onto a dvd how do I create the video file & audio file so that daphne will load it etc.. Sorry If I sound a bit confusing but I thought according to the tutorials that I saw that it was just a matter of finding a zipped version of the game and then using daphne to download the missing and/or required parts.

Watch the ETA Prime video tutorial again, you need to mount the extracted 7.8gb file you downloaded and and mount it on a virtual drive. then run the daphne loader to create the relevant files.
the 7.8gb file you downloaded is only used as a authenticity unlocker so that the correct files can be downloaded for the game. if you dont wish to go thru all the process of doing this look at the link i posted above and google dragons lair brd. that will save you a lot of time and the files are all ready for you and are much better quality than the official daphne ones that get downloaded from their server

@Stuart2773 I have watched the part of the tutorial to do with loading it and he gives no instructions about how to mount the files. All he says is that you will need one of the dvd files mentioned in the list that pops up in daphne and then he loads the files by just clicking ok. He made no mention of how to mount them from an iso file to a virtual drive. This isn't the first of his videos, which although usually very helpful I have noticed he misses steps in. I tried looking at the link you sent me and I googled dragons lair brd which the first result appeared to be a forum post by someone offering it for download but I could find no apparent link to do so. I knew this wasn't going to be an easy process but I would have hoped there could have been more comprehensive guides.

You need to register on the forum to enable the links !!

yeah Daphne is a pretty complex process to get up and running, but once you get the hang of it its not too bad.
Dragons Lair 1 & 2, Space Ace & Thayers quest are the awkward ones as they require the DVD to authenticate the download .
register on that forum you found and you will see the download links for Dragons Lair 1 & 2 & Space Ace & Cliff Hanger. they are the best versions to use for the Daphne Emulator.

I found a guide which had how to mount the iso and once I was able to do that I was able to get Daphne on the pc to recognise the virtual drive and update to get the necessary files. Still only played it a couple of times. I remember seeing it in the arcades back in the day and thinking it was incredibly hard and now I am sure. Still, it will be worth a go. Thanks for everyone's help.
