Error message after adding splash screen (sometimes)
-
I'm trying to add a splash screen to my RetroPie setup but when I do RetroPie displays an error message whenever I shut the system down.
- Created the splash screen in Photoshop and save it to my Windows desktop as a .PNG format.
- Connected to my Pi via Samba share through Windows File Explorer and copied the splash screen to the splashscreen directory.
- Opened the configuration from within EmulationStation and selected "splash screens".
- Picked "Choose splashscreen" / "Own/Extra splashscreens (...)" and then picked my image.
- Rebooted the system
When shutting down using "Quit" / "Shutdown System" the Pi now shows and error that says "readonly mode, sorry [start with --edit?]".
Here's the odd part. It doesn't do it every time (or at least it happens so fast I don't see it).
When it doesn't happen the system starts to shutdown and I get the the standard shutdown text lines. When it does happen it shows the splash screen first with the error message below it and then a few seconds later I get the standard shutdown text lines.
I don't know if this is because the splash screen is somehow stuck in the background with the error message showing but can't be seen until a shutdown command stops EmulationStation or something else.
Anyone have any suggestions?
I did try to reset the permissions through the setup but that doesn't seem to do anything.

Can you add more details about your system - https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first. What version of RetroPie are you using ?
The error message seems related to the runcommand and not the splashscreen - https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/2402/

Sorry. I should have included that.
My setup:
Stock Raspberry Pi 3
RetroPie 4.4 OS with updated scripts
8 GB Sandisk thumb drive formatted for FAT32
Stock build with Tronkyfran installed.
Set the system to not save metadata on exit.
No actual roms on the system yet but additional emulators installed (CoolCV, lr-freeintv, lr-0e2m)I will take a look at the link you posted.

I decided to do some experimenting. I formatted the SD card and put a fresh 4.4 install on it. I updated the RetroPie scripts and then copied the splash screen to the appropriate directory on the SD card. There was nothing else done to the system.
Even with this configuration I can reproduce the problem although it appears to be a timing issue.
If I try to restart the system within 5 seconds of emulation station starting it always displays that error. This sometimes happens between 5 to 10 seconds as well. It can also happen (although not as often) if I begin the restart process (Start, Quit, Restart System, Really Restart?) but don't click "Really Restart?" right away. I can let the system sit for 20 or more seconds and when I do confirm the restart it will happen.
I need to re-image my SD card with my last backup to see if these times are extended by making changes in other areas.
