Hello, I'm new to retropie so forgive me if this question as has been answered (I did try searching and came up with nothing; perhaps I'm not using the correct terminology)

I'm able to press ALT+F4 to access the Terminal / Command line. But here is where my problem arises; when I press the "i" and "o" keys on my keyboard, nothing is registering in the terminal. The keyboard is directly connected via USB, not wifi.

Is the keyboard the issue? (when I plug it into my laptop , the keyboard and I/O keys work just fine). Not sure what I'm missing. Any advice deeply appreciated.

Try re-configuring your keyboard for the US layout using raspi-config - accessible from the RetroPie menu: https://raspberrypi.stackexchange.com/questions/41032/.

Is it a keyboard with a Fn key? Make sure capslock and numlock are off, some of them have a Fn lock ya know. Also retropie uses UK default so it is a good idea to change now to US using raspi-config if you use that layout.
