The new Raspberry Pi 4 is here!!

@KN4THX cool cool :) keeping an eye on GitHub is a good idea and you can definitely gain a sense of progress on there to a degree.
Hope your exams go well so you can relax and play some nice retro games :) hopefully retropie will be out by then so you can reward yourself.

@Bearwynn Me too! I've also been reading about the Sinden light guns and am hoping those turn out to have as much awesomeness as they seem to. I have been dying to play Duck Hunt with the Clay's :) Do you have a most anticipated optimized system for the Pi 4?
-
@KN4THX what do you mean by most anticipated system?
I have the 4GB pi 4 if that's what you mean. Also to anyone who would find this interesting, I'm playing conkers bad fur day at full speed with a 1.75GHz overclock and a 600MHz overclock on the GPU.
This is on an unoptimised build so that should give you some indication as to just how powerful this new hardware is.
EDIT: there is a slight slowdown when there is about three enemies in the screen but this is still a significant improvement

@Bearwynn I apologize, I meant most anticipated optimized emulator :)

@KN4THX of for sure that's N64 and Dreamcast, this are the consoles I grew up with and I'd just love to relive them in their full glory. How about you?
-
@KN4THX Dreamcast, N64 and Hopefully Saturn would be nice. That is as much as we can hope for, everything older already runs acceptable on my 3b+ Would be nice if some newer mame stuff works which I am guessing it will. I have basically switched to a SFF PC now because that runs everything but the work involved with that is setting everything up.

I remember some arcade games performing slightly better from Raspberry Pi 3b to RPi 3b+.
Not many, but I think it shows that the 4b will definitely be capable of much better Arcade game performance.PSP ran seemingly fine with 2D games on the RPi 3b+ as well (on Lakka, not RetroPie) but totally ruined when it had to play FMVs or 3D games. I saw quite decent 3D PPSSPP (Lakka) performance in a youtube vid the other day!
-
NM I read it wrong.
-
I'd like to add that while I had the game's running as good as my previous posts said, they are unstable and won't run for long. They were also all at the lowest possible graphical settings.
I just thought I should add this so my earlier posts don't get too many hopes up
-
@Barcrest As far as I know, Dreamcast is fairly smooth. As for Saturn emulation - the boot animation is somewhat smooth, but when playing Daytona USA, we're back below the game's 20ish fps and there's no sound due to how slow it seems to run.
Mind you, this is all on Lakka's Yabause core on a RasPi4b 4GB. I think with a tweak or two, Yaba Sanshiro should be able to be ported over and replace Yabause in both Lakka and Retropie.

Yaba Sanshiro
Yaba Sanshiro is the one I am holding out hope for. I think this is what is used on the Odroid Xu4 port of retropie.

I am just curious but what is the progress right now with RetroPie for the Pi 4 at the moment and sorry for asking just waiting for a build of it first before i would buy the Pi 4 and do you guys think the 2gb model would be more than enough as well?

There's no ETA as far as a release or updates beyond the github that have been provided. I doubt you will get a different answer from the Retropie team. You can follow the github: https://github.com/RetroPie/RetroPie-Setup/issues/2749
Most people view 2 GB as more than enough to run emulators and emulationstation proper. I personally jumped for the 4 GB as to be ahead of any changes.

Oh ok well i wanted to buy the 4gb model but here in Canada it is a little much plus for certain arcades games i want to try out in my mind i tend to think 2gb would be enough because the first game i want to test out for sure is Killer instinct 1 and 2.
