      Everything works fine when Pi is using HDMI output.
      However, this error occurs when I am trying to switch to the A/V jack output:

      lvl0:   Error initializing SDL!

      lvl0:   Renderer failed to initialize!
      lvl0:   Window failed to initialize!

      Firmware: 6c3fe3f096a93de3b34252ad98cdccadeb534be2
      Kernel: 4.19.57-v7+

        @COOL_IRON please read the link at the top of page and provide details of setup. I suspect you don't have the latest RetroPie.

            @BuZz Sure.
            The RetroPie is 4.5.1

            Tried reinstalling sdl2 via retropie_packages - didn't help
            Tried different sdtv modes - didn't help
            Tried commenting out the WaveShare Display options - didn't help

            Here is the config.txt

              @COOL_IRON this doesn't look like our default image - with the noobs config etc. Also your kernel is newer than 4.5.1 - we forced a kernel downgrade. Please try the 4.5.1 image from our site.

              Btw - please read the link again. We ask for more information than just version. Please post as much detail as possible when asking for support.

                    @BuZz
                    Pi Model: 3B
                    Power Supply used: Official
                    Built From: on top of existing OS

                    You’re right, it’s a custom image.
                    I downgraded the firmware to 1.2019401-1 via rasbiantools in retropie_packages. Now everything works fine. I suppose this is some bug in the vc in newer firmware.
