Is It Possible To Use PS4 Thumb Stick On Neo Geo

I am using a PS4 controller to play neo geo games and the D pad works fine but I would like to use the thumb stick, is this a config option or even possible?
The thumb sticks work fine on mame but not neo geo.

it's a configuration option. see https://github.com/retropie/retropie-setup/wiki/Configuration-Editor
- configure basic libretro emulator options
- configure default options for libretro emulators
- Allow analogue sticks to be used as a d-pad = 'left stick'
