i plan on using pi4 mostly for dreamcast games.
thanks!

@blueagent Either model would work fine for emulation, though you'd have to wait for the RetroPie release supporting the Pi4.

ok thanks for letting me know!

I've come across this unofficial build, so will be frowned on and you will get NO support from the RetroPie team as its not an official release. Looks well made and tested though, as I was looking for a way to compile an official build along the lines of RetroSMC but for the PI4 and found this link
https://www.electromaker.io/tutorial/blog/raspberry-pi-4-retropie-unofficial-release-thera-rott
Basically the link suggests the 1GB is good enough as any more will really just be a waste, unless you intend to use the PI4 for desktop use or maybe KODI. Support for KODI is still flaky support on PI4 but shouldn't be too long before full supported by OSMC (which I use) or LibreElec KODI
I also found this link that explains how to compile RetroPie via the official setup script on the PI4 and start from scratch rather than an image created by someone that may not be to your linking or just isn't what you want. This will take some time as it has to download and create the package
RetroSMC uses this method but that hasn't been updated in a very long time, so this may be the only way to go to create RetroPie
