I understand how to create custom collection and add roms to the collection they all end up in Collections Tab
and it creates it's own custom-BEAT EM UP FBA.cfg in /opt/retropie/configs/all/emulationstation/collections/

Now i created 3 folders in Fba folder from winscp
      ALL GAMES
      SPORTS
      BEAT EM UP FBA
and placed roms in them it works fine.
but this is not something am looking to do because if i add roms it means it takes up more space,i will rather assign roms from other location to these folders instead.

so pick out few roms from ALL GAMES to BEAT EM UP FBA just like how we add favourite to custom collection.

this is a single test i did and looking at BEAT EM UP FBA i se
      /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/mame-libretro/64street.zip

how can i do something like this so it works for my custom folders rather then adding roms that will take up space, what edits do i make.

Custom collections are just lists of ROMs from the ones you already have, they don't work as folders, but as systems - you can't have them show as sub-folders. There is the Group unthemed collections option in Emulationstation, which will group all custom collections that don't have a theme under a single parent system (Custom collections), but you can't have a custom collection show up as sub-folder in another system (i.e. fba).

i was thinking about placing emty zip files in subfolders with the game name and then run the command to execute game from another location?.

also how do i check rom region, clrmame and others just to much messing about.

You can use symlinks instead of creating empty files - they don't take up space and they appear as regular files.

The front-end doesn't know about the game's metadata (region, #of players, etc.), so you either use a ROM sorting/rebuilding program before to produce your games or create your own utility to parse .dat files and extract the ROM info from there.

I was under the impression that some .dat files contain also country info, I guess you'll need to filter them normally - via clrmamepro or similar programs.
