@Krakatoa said in CUSTOM COLLECTION BUG OR WHAT?:

What are you using to edit the cfg files? I'm using notepad+ and haven't had any issues updating custom collections.

      I CONFIRM...thankyou very much...
incredible but with notepad++ , the cfg file edit , now work fine!

I spend hours to try a solution...i was sure, the little notepad of windows was not the problem. crazy...

Hope that can help another guys...
      thanks again Krakatoa!!

@mitu said in Custom Collections Not Showing Games/Roms:

If your collection ROMs are not part of an existing system, they won't show up. So if you created a roms/cps1 folder and put the ROMs there, then created a collection with the filenames of those ROMs, that won't work.
EmulationStation needs to know that roms/cps1 is a system, you probably had - in your previous build - cps configured as such.

If that's not your exact setup, then you should post the configuration files for EmulationStation's system list and the custom collection you've created. And it would be nice if you added the info asked in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first, just to know what version of EmulationStation/RetroPie we're talking here.

@mitu Thank you for your reply and I apologize for missing the other information. As soon as you mentioned the es_systems.cfg file was the moment I realized "yup, that's not there". All is good with this build now. Arg I knew it was going to be something silly.

i looked into the .dat and no information is their about region such as usa or bra or ita.
can you give me more info regarding this

I was under the impression that some .dat files contain also country info, I guess you'll need to filter them normally - via clrmamepro or similar programs.

You can use symlinks instead of creating empty files - they don't take up space and they appear as regular files..

@cargorunner And as another tip - be careful editing your cfg files in windows. Windows uses both line feed and carriage return characters at the end of a line. If your custom list of roms contains carriage return characters then it is treated as an empty list by emulation station. You can check your cfg file using Nopepad++ and viewing special characters. For your cfg file to work in emulation station there must ONLY be a line feed at the end of each line.

As well as the usual Zelda, Sonic and Mario lists I used the player's rating scores in Launchbox to create "Top 50" lists by genre across all systems and they are good fun to look at and play through. I have really enjoyed the custom lists feature on my retropie.

@sscalley Thank you! This was exactly my issue as well, although I was using a pre-made image from somewhere else that had the same permissions issues.

For me, since my gamelist.xml files were in the roms directory, I needed to do the following:

      cd ~\retropie\roms sudo ./ -name 'gamelist.xml' -exec chown pi:pi {} \;

      Worked great!
