Pi Model or other hardware: RPi zero w
Power Supply used: Samsung Micro USB Power Supply
      RetroPie Version Used: 4.5.1
Built From: Pre-made 1/0 retropie image
      USB Devices connected: wireless keyboard
      Controller used: wireless keyboard
Error messages received: nothing, RPI just freezes and requires a reboot

So, I downloaded a new pre-made image onto my Rpi zero w. When I boot it, it works fine until the emulationstation loads, at which point the RPI freezes (controls are unresponsive and green act light is constantly on) so I just need to unplug my RPI and plug it back in. I plugged the same keyboard and SD Card into my Rpi 3 b+ and it works absolutely fine. I also tried to reduce the resolution Now the emulationstation loads and I could use it for several seconds and then it freezes again. I also can quit the emulationstation with F4 and get into the console, at which point there are no freezes or lags. Please help, I have wasted 3 days trying to figure out what in the world is going on with it.

I've run a Pi Zero from a charger I had laying around when in a pinch but I have inconsistent results, usually with the more powerful models, when not using a dedicated power supply vs a phone charger which doesn't supply voltage quite the same.

How long does it freeze for? I know on a first boot my Pi Zero can take a few to load all of the rooms and then boots much faster from then on.

*Edited when I reread the post about proper imaging.

Are you using a proper power supply ? Can you try with the 3b power supply and see if you get the same freeze ?

@mitu @KN4THX yes, I use Rpi 3b power supply and it freezes completely - I can't do absolutely anything and can only unplug the rpi and plug it back in.
