Five favorite ARCADE games available in MAME
-
@langest I love Bubble Bobble too, but I feel the NES version is much more of an improvement on the arcade so I didn't put it on my arcade list.
-
Golden Age favorites:
City Connection (JP version)
Pengo
Missile Command
Vanguard
Arkanoid -

Bubble Bobble
Not bubble bobble. Puzzle bobble, also known as bust-a-move.
-
@Dipkid Have you gotten Night Slashers to run well on the Pi? Just curious. It's a cool game that runs in MAME, but on my Pi setup it's "stutter-y". (I can't remember if it's isolated to the video or audio...or if it's both.) Should I be overclocking? I'm not sure if it's worth it. I don't want to do damage to the board with overheating.

Paperboy
Bubble Bobble
Shinobi
Flying Shark
Night Slashers -

We now support Night Slashers in MAME2003+ and i have it on good authority it runs pretty good due to the older driver having speedups present to boost up
the games performance, one of my faves this game jump stomping an enemy midair driving em into the ground then kicking their head off never gets old :)EDIT i forgot i added the same speedups for the DECO32 games to the Final Burn Neo core a while back so you might wanna try Night Slashers in that emulator also.

Puzzle Bobble / Bust a Move
Metal Slug
Windjammers
Frenzy
Phoenix -
The local "Giant Eagle" (grocery) had a Rolling Thunder upright in the late 80s/early 90s and the local "Pizza Hut" (restaurant) had a Pac-Man cocktail cabinet. (Those two are burned into my memory although not personal favorites. They're good, but didn't make the list.)
City Connection is fun. (And I hate that cat.)
Robotron 2084 is a classic and awesome with a twin stick set-up.
All the Metal Slug games are fun even with the one-hit kills. -
@IanDaemon Have you played the NES version of Rolling Thunder? That is another game that was much improved on the NES. The pacing is much more exciting than the arcade version and you still get the awesome soundtrack.
-
@VictimRLSH I have not. I've played the arcades versions of RT and RT2. Now I have to take a look at the NES version.
-
Probably my most played arcade games on actual arcade hardware from back in the day:
Tron
Mortal Kombat 1-3
Final Fight
Street Fighter II
Hard Drivin'/Race Drivin'My favorite MAME games to play on RetroPie with my friends (I like co-op beat 'em up's!):
Final Fight
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Arcade Game
Cadillacs and Dinosaurs
The Simpsons
Captain CommandoOne of the rarest arcade games I've ever played would have to be Time Traveler:
-
@IanDaemon on my pi 3s it runs good on lr-mame2010, one of the Japanese roms, since its not censored. 👍
-
@Dipkid "Won't somebody think of the children." XD
I remember seeing Time Traveler in the arcade at the "Monroeville Mall" back in the day. (southwest Pennsylvania, kinda northeast U.S.) That was pure magic to see in person as a kid.
-
wonder boy
Rygar
Shinobi
P.O.W ( prisoners of war)
karnov or tiger road I lean more towards tiger road though to be honest -

One of the rarest arcade games I've ever played would have to be [Time Traveler]
Before it closed, a local arcade had Holoseum which was a street fighter style fighting game that used the same holographic hardware as Time Traveler. I can still hear some of the sounds in my head ("Drunk monkey!").
-
-
@backstander I never played Time Traveler because, if I recall, it was crazy expensive in the arcade when I saw it. As a kid I just watched the attract reel over and over.
-
- City Connection
- Bomb Jack
- Gauntlet
- Mr Do!
- Pang! (Buster Bros. for US)
- Shinobi
I know, there's 6 and not 5, but I cannot take one off.
