      Hello,

I would like to install Retropie on a fresh install of Debian.

I would like Debian WITHOUT desktop environment.

What is the way forward because with X11 alone, this seems to not work.

      Thank you for your help

That's not supported right now out-of-the-box.

What's the error you're getting ? How did you install RetroPie ?

For the details of the config

            i7, 8GB RAM, GTX970, Full HD Display, 500GB HDD

Piur the installation of Retropie, I used the installation script (https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Debian/)

It should not be difficult to get rid of Gnome (or other).

I already saw running MAME directly in the terminal without desktop environment with FBDEV so everything is possible right?

Ok, so what errors you've encountered during/after the installation ? If you'd like to get help/support (as the name of the forum implies), then you'll have to let us know what's not working.

@NY152 you will need to run retropie under the desktop on your system. Please post logs for any error you got installing as @mitu mentioned. Thanks.

                  Astonishing ...

                  NO error during installation.

The problem with Debian is that you can not run EmulationStation in console mode (it does not detect a display)

Under ArchLinux, no worries without any desktop environment. EmulationStation starts and runs the emulators itself without any problem.

So saying that an office environment is mandatory is a totally false.

I will look for myself since without thinking more than that, the office environment is for you indispensable, you consider this as normal, not me

                  thanks anyway
