unofficial Retroarch 1.8.1
-
@Darksavior if I update retroarch this way will I face problems if the update gets officially released?
-
@Darksavior this version wouldn't work on a jessie based image I take it?
-
also, where can I check the path that emulation station uses to open attract mode? I'm sure someone has to know that

Emulationstation does not start AM - it's probably started from the auto-start script in
/opt/retropie/configs/all/autostart.sh
. -
@Mick2K Probably won't. Just clone the main repo again and reinstall the core packages whenever the updates get merged to it. Make a backup as always.
@tobas Dude, I already told you on reddit what to do. Start fresh on stretch or buster, install attractmode, then transfer your config files to it. I don't use AM so you'll have to figure that out. Make a backup image and start extracting files related to AM with 7zip.
-
@tobas try not getting emotional with software setups. I understand your frustration but 1) with patience everything can be fixed 2) if no solutions can be found, start from the beginning. It's not China's wall after all :)
-
@matchaman there's no way I could remake this image even remotely close to what it is. I wouldnt even want to attempt it.
-
You can easily backup ROMs, configuration files, artwork, themes, etc. Pretty much everything that consumed your time. A new setup itself isn't time consuming and restoring your personal work is only a matter of transfer bandwidth.
-
@matchaman my friend made the attract mode in a way that I cannot just duplicate. he removed the need for a keyboard entirely. it's very clever and a nice reminder of how good he was with this stuff.
I've tried to replace everything from a backup after starting fresh and it simply does not work. I have all files, configs, roms. everything. if simply dragging my old files back in worked I wouldnt be asking for a solution.
I dont even need bandwidth. I can access my image through paragon, transferring is easy and fast. it simply does not work.
-
I'm at the point where I'm willing to pay for instructions on how to get my attract mode working again after upgrading to stretch.
-
IMO you should reinstall attractmode from source (not binary), and then look at the build logs to see what failed. this could give a good clue.
this was suggested to you by @mitu already
-
@dankcushions I will do that hopefully tonight. but my offer stands. I am willing to pay for information that will allow my attract mode to work properly after upgrading to stretch.
if anyone has upgraded to stretch from jessie and figured out how to restore their attract mode I will send them money through paypal.
-
I'm setting a 20 dollar bounty for information on how to restore my attract mode after upgrading to stretch from jessie. If you can tell me how to get it working again as it was before, the money is yours.
-
@tobas why are you offering money when people are already trying to help you for free? Install attract mode from source and then see where that gets you like @dankcushions suggested. Nobody knows off the top of their head what the solution is. What I mean is nobody is withholding information from you, troubleshooting can be a trial and error process.
-
Attract mode will not compile.
-
@tobas please upload the log file somewhere as mitu requested. we need to look at the full thing.
-
@dankcushions I'm not sure where to find the log file, I thought it was in runncommand?
-
I think @dankcushions was referring to the compilation log, which I asked a few posts before, from
$HOME/RetroPie-Setup/logs
. However, looking at your previous screenshot, that's not the case, since it looks like you're trying to compile AttractMode outside the RetroPie-Setup, on your own. -
@mitu I did install it through the setup script as well and that is also not recognized
I found the log.gz but I'm not sure how to post the contents
-
@tobas The
.gz
is a zipped file - you can use 7zip to unpack it and the upload its contents on pastebin.com.
