Xbox One Wireless adapter and Pi4

Hello, I am new to the forum. I just set up a Pi4 with emulation station and Raspian Buster. I am trying to connect my wireless xbox controllers (1st generation NOT bluetooth enabled) and I cannot get the adapter to connect. I have tested it and linked a controller to the adapter w a PC, but when I plug into the Pi it does not light up nor does it connect when my controller is in connect mode. Has anyone figured this out and can you help me please? Thank you!
