Need help with button config

I'm setting up a cabinet using a 3B+ & retropie using strictly a Star Wars yoke w/ usb convertor to control it. My problem is there is no start/select button on the yoke so I have no way to exit the game or access any settings with the hot key. What I need to know is there an alternate control method where I could have those buttons mapped to the second usb port without those buttons being attributed to "controller 2"?

There are several things you could try. One is simply using a GamePadBlock.
