Do I Need a Home Backup of All These?
-
We all know that you have to copy modified config files into custom folders in the home directories, otherwise the changes can get overwritten and undone. However, there are a few that don't seem to have home equivalents, so I wanted to see if the following really needed to be moved to the home directory (like the others), or can they/should they just stay where they are and be overwritten in their original spots. They are as follows:
1) The launching.png files for custom load screens in each system directory
2) A custom/modified controller.cfg file in configs/all/retroarch-joypads -
@AlphaBetaPie I'm not sure which 'custom' folders you're referring to, but the 2 types of files you mentioned can be transferred from one installation to another - they're not ovewritten by updates since they're not part of a RetroPie package.

Thanks for the info. What I mean is this. Take a previous example I got help with here on the forums regarding my console sort order.
I was told to copy/past es_systems to a new folders in the /opt/retropie/configs/all/emulationstation/ directory. This is to ensure it's not overwritten later. So the above files don't need a similar treatmemnt? I would love to keep them all on the same side if possible, so could I create a new custom directory they would still work in (on the "safe" side)?
If I have to leave them where they are, what folder/directory is the "unsafe" one that is in danger of being overwritten later (for future reference)? Thanks

It all depends on the program that uses those files and where it expects/searches for them. In this case (runcommand launch image and controller configuration), there is no alternate folder.

No, as I said, those are not overwrittten by upgrades. Controller info could be overwritten if you re-configure your controller and launch images are entirely custom, so they're not part of any package that would interfere with it.
