Multitap Issue for PSX games (CTR and V-Rally 2) on raspberry
-
Pi Model 3B+
Power Supply used: 5v 2.5A (raspberry's offical one)
RetroPie Version Used: 4.5.1
Built From: Pre made SD Image on RetroPie
Controller used: PS4 dualshock
Emulator: lr-pcxs-rearmedI'm new to retropie, and I've got this problem I can't get through.
I would like to setup some of my childhood games for PS1 with 4 player split-screen
I managed to run Sled Storm without problem, simply change from"none" to "standard" player 3 and 4 controller.
Then I've made the same thing for V-Rally 2 and Crash Team Racing but none of them work, cause I'm unable to input any kind of command in the game (I can only open the Retroarch menu).
From here I think I've tried every possible combination of none/standard controller for the 8 players and enable/disabled multitap 1 or 2, no matter what I try to do, I can't get more then 2 players.
Both games seems to respond likely to configuration:
If multitap 1 is enabled no in game input is taken
If multitap 2 is enabled the game see only 2 joystick
I also tried diffrent rom of this game, nothing changed
I've searched far and wide for about 2 hours, the only suggestion I've got is "turn off multitap 2" which I've done and still not taking input in game. Please help -
If the games require an analog controllers, have you set the controller's device type to 'Dualshock' or 'RetroPad w/analog' for all players ?
See https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Playstation-1/#the-controller-problem-digital-only-analog. -
Yes I've tried all the "basic" thing that work in other ROM
I would like to know if someone managed to run one of these game in a raspberry pi with 4 player split screen -
I don't think the player detection has anything to do with the PI4 or not. Here's how I got it working for CTR:
- set P1, P3, P5 and P7 as 'standard'/'analog'
- make sure that Multitap 1 is set to auto (should be the default).
The 4P option is available when entering the Battle mode:
Save the game options for this game, then change the options back so it won't affect other games. Try the same shenanigans with the other games.

It's been a little while since I've looked, but I remember having CTR work fine but I absolutely could not get V-Rally 2 to deal with more than 2 players. If this thread results in a config that works, I (too) will be very grateful.

Thank @mitu , I've tried another ROM for CTR and now it's working fine, but I've tried six differents for V-Rally 2, none of them working. So I think @LineOf7s is right about it, sadly. The only good news is that I'm not the only one who want to play that game with more than one friend, if I'll make it work one day you'll be the first to know it ;)
I've got another question, and it seems a waste of time open another topic because it still multitap related. ISS pro evolution 2 allow to play up to four play, and the multitap work without problem, but the input the game ask for come from port 1-A, 2, 1-B, 1-C and none of my 4 joystick control the player 2, while it result plugged in. I think that if I could plug in a fifth joystick should work (just assuming) but there's a way to config the fourth joystick to control player 2 instead of player 1-D?

@sugo98 I ran into this same issue. After 3 hours of head-banging, I managed to solve this, thanks to your post that gave me a hint: 5th joystick.
For some reason, this game wants the Slot 2 to be plugged in. So it actually requires 5 players, the 5th one being in fact the Player 2. So you just need to tell RetroArch that Port 5 is controlled by the same gamepad as Port 4. Make sure this 5th player is set to a PlayStation controller or analog pad and it works.
This seems to be the same behaviour among all KCET football games. And maybe Track 'n field games too?
I hope it'll help you.
