Alright, I've posted this elsewhere, but making its own thread so hopefully people can give me a clear answer:

I finally got VVVVVV and Cave Story to work in the Ports menu, where before my config file was messed up and wouldn't run them. The issue I am having, is that by following the Cave Story installation instructions on the official github page, I am left with two entries in the list: Cave Story (shell script), and CaveStory (the folder we are told to create in /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/ports/

      So my questions are:
      A. Did I do something wrong?
      B. Can I permanently hide the folder & .exe inside said folder?
      C. Or am I just stuck with this garbage?

It doesn't make sense that VVVVVV has a subfolder in the same directory, yet doesn't show up twice. This is the last main issue I'm having with my Raspberry Pi 3b+. After that, it'll be completely configured and I won't have to edit anything. The main issue here is that apparently nobody knows what I'm talking about with this.

@InfinityBeing said in Duplicate Port Entries:

        A. Did I do something wrong?

Possibly, but without knowing what you did - in addition to the ports installation - it's just a guessing game.

        B. Can I permanently hide the folder & .exe inside said folder?

Yes - as I said already in another topic, this is the default behavior for Ports, the fact that you're experiencing otherwise indicates your configuration is changed.

        C. Or am I just stuck with this garbage?

If you're not happy with the games, remove them ?

Also, please add the info requested in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first when opening a support topic, it makes it easier to diagnose things.

Which configuration are you talking about? es_systems? I haven't modified anything code wise apart from making Kodi it's own menu item. That right there shouldn't have caused anything.

Raspberry 3b+, factory PSU cable & Samsung 32GB MicroSD card. Using the older 8BitDo SNES controller (no analog sticks). Running 4.1.5, I don't know what else i can put here that would help. It's not the games im frustrated with, im frustrated with the fact that its showing up twice. You need to clarify which of the hundreds of config files you are talking about.

              Running 4.1.5,

You're probably running 4.5.1, since any image released before version 4.4 was incompatible with the 3B+.

Which configuration are you talking about? es_systems? I haven't modified anything code wise apart from making Kodi it's own menu item.

You seem to have configured something after all. Please post the es_systems.cfg you modified on pastebin.com and also post a listing of the CaveStory folder where you copied the game.

@InfinityBeing I think that the problem is that ES shows all the directories that contain files with the extensions listed in es_systems.cfg.
For example my port system is configured to only show sh and SH extensions. I have several subdirectories in /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/ports, but since none of them contains *.sh or *.SH files they do not show up. If I create a directory in /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/portsand copy an .shfile into it, the directory will show in ES.
I guess that your CaveStory subdirectory contains a file with an extension listed in the port section of your es_systems.cfg. To have the directory to not show up in ES I suggest you move it to another location, and update the Cave Story shell script to point to this location.
