I'm also playing "random classic arcade games from my custom collection of classic arcade games" in MAME2003. I'm mostly playing cocktail cabinet games during my lunch break, because there's no way I'm getting that upright cabinet up the steps. I made a custom thin cocktail cabinet that I can move one person.

Mr. Do! and Spatter are the most played at the moment.

Another game I recently installed on my laptop to finally try to beat is Infernal Runner:

The game was/is legendary for its extreme difficulty and the very explicit ways to die.

I've been having fun setting up RetroPie. I've played a bit of Super Mario Bros for the NES. - a lot of Super Mario Kart for the SNES and Space Invaders for the Atari 2600. And just today, I've set up Doom for the Game Boy Advance.

Honestly, whoever's idea it was to compile all possible game emulators into one package is a genius.

I'm playing through tie fighter (collectors CD ROM version) in dosbox. Its probably the best space flight sim game I have ever played. I even was able to map all of the vital keyboard controls to my Xbox 360 controller so I have a true console experience.

@dankcushions Haha just came to say I'm stocked and ready to face Mother Brain again on the Switch. First run was 11 hrs and this one is 5. What a near-perfect game.

I also started playing Zero Mission on GBA just to see how it compared to Metroid (OG). Uhh 3 hours later..... ...

I love this game! It has a high replay value for me.
If you really enjoy this, I would recommend you check out the Metroid Prime series that started on the Gamecube. I thought the move to 3-D was done very well. I also like the way the series keeps many elements and weapons similar and just adds some new things. After you get familiar with one you don't feel lost in the future games.

cheers both! i am loving the music (the whole game feels inspired by Alien). when the triumphant music comes in after you finally return to the surface for the first time in ages - great moment!

that said, last night i got to a wall jump sequence and it's THE most frustrating mechanic for me! it only triggers if you do a 'rolling' jump, and then the timing to get the jump seems really tight. this part has even got a bunch of enemies who stunlock you out of it at the top, so the 5% of times I get there, I get knocked down, GRR!! i will persist, though :)

@dankcushions its moments like those that make me appreciative of save states. There is a part of me that wants to beat it fair and square and another that just doesn't have the time for that. Especially in games that offer limited lives and no in game saving (grew up with a Sega Genesis, so pretty much all of those games šŸ˜‚)

@quicksilver I was really surprised to discover my GBA and SNES emulators both save using the game's own save features. When I played on Windows emulators, I always had to go into the drop down menu and create a save state. Really neat.

I second checking out the Metroid Prime series, they're pretty awesome. The music for all of the Metroid games works really well. The GBA entries are a lot of fun too.

I don't think I could tolerate retro-gaming if not for save states. I really don't have the time to commit to individual games like that anymore and sometimes you just have to stop playing but don't want to use your place.

And to continue on the actual topic of the thread: I've been absolutely sucked back into Elder Scrolls Online (xbone, if anybody else plays, I'm fairly easy to find).

I need to actually sit down and start my Pi4 build so I get back into the retro stuff.

I've been working my way through the TG-16 catalog. I've noticed that some of the games are WAY too easy. Cratermaze and Sunsoft's Batman for PCEngine were both so simple I actually finished each game in one sitting.

That's probably my favorite Batman game. It's so different and quirky.
