LR-MESS and the importance of CHD Check sums
-
Hello folks,
As CD-I games work so well under lr-Mess on the Pi4, I thought I'd have a stab at getting FM-Towns games to run again. I've followed the same procedure as with the CD-I (zipped bios in the roms folder, real CHD with the name in the XML file and the dummy chd to launch) but for some reason it just isn't working.
It likes the bios (I've tried both the original file and the UX) and it gets to the point where it's booted and brought up the controller notification at the bottom of the screen, but then it immediately quits every time with every game.
The only thing that stands out is the checksum. Although i've used the same rom pack as the one mentioned in the BIOS XML, when i use CHDMAN to create the CHDs they never has the same checksum. Is this likely to be the problem?
i've put the logs here (both verbose and non verbose): https://pastebin.com/V389pYX4

I have the same problems with FM Towns (different ways)
I start mess and none of my chd files start. I have to select the Bios in the Gamelist. After the Bios startes i have to press "esc" with the keyboard. Afterwards I can select the game ( i have the Mess GUI). I also had the problem that the SHA1 checksum is wrong.
To solve your problem about the checksum. Go to the Bios folder then Mame and there Hash Folder. Edit the fmtowns_cd.xml there. For Galaxy Force <disk name="Galaxy Force II" sha1="7b012179cd21c6ac3f58d6b2cb5bde0782007d28" / adjust the Sha1 value accordingly (see your log 90c869b43bc7f846251f35ef5e5b741f641c6184)the diskname has to identical with your roms
that's how I got the games to run. But most of them do not run smoothly on the RPi4 anyway.
CPU is with me on 2Ghz and GPU 700

I solved this in the end by downloading the neokobe collection (all 90gb for the SECOND TIME) and making CHD's with an old version of Chdman.
Nostre, how are you launching thegames? I have a 'proper' chd with the disk name 'Galaxy Force II" and then one dummy chd with the name of the entry in fmtowns_cd.xml - something like gforce2. All games will launch from the dummy chd. Now i've successfully rebuilt mess i'm not sure the check sums need to match.
So far i've found:
Galaxy force and Genocide, pu-ra-li-ra panic bomber man and Afterburner 3 are both extremely playable with decent sound
4d sports, Chase HQ, Turbo Outrun and Flashback play but with compromised sound.
Its a shame Unz is closed source.
