Mame easiest way ?

Isn't acquiring a fully unmerged romset and then deleting the games you don't want the easiest way to have a fully working Mame romset?
Altough the romset is bigger in size, even after you delete those unwanted games, you don't have to hassle with CLRmamepro and/or other programs to get parents/clones etc..

@uyildirim yeah i'd say so :)

I think the tricky part is finding a non-merged set as most will be split. A lot of sites allow non-merged single ROM downloads from specific versions but not whole sets.

By the way, do FBA romsets have different games than Mame romsets or is it just a selection of Mame games that work good with the FBA emulator? And do Mame romsets and Neogeo romsets have a lot of the same games?
So if I have a full Mame Romset and a Neogeo Romset with the addition of CPS games I have everything covered?

I am not completely sure but I think FBA is more of a subset of what MAME supports as far as platforms/systems/PCB's and is optimized for those platforms. FBA is quite a bit newer depending on which version you use (based on MAME 0.114, 0.154 or 0.173) so it might have some games not included in MAME which are older ROM sets. I've had good luck with lr-fba-next.
I've been using lr-imame4all but I think lr-mame2003 will be the "premiere" platform for MAME on RetroPie once a few bugs are worked out depending on what features are important to you. It does a great job of covering the "golden age" of arcade gaming and then some. There's also a great shader if you use lr-cores done by DaveJ that makes the games look pretty amazing.
Yeah if you use MAME and FBA you should be setting pretty good. On a side note if you like vector based games AdvMAME by far is the best emulator to use. They have several settings that are specific to vector based games.

I don't post any links except to pictures or another post but just to clarify as I have seen others posting or linking for tutorial reasons, etc. Are links allowed generally speaking? With MAME it seems a fine line. Most of the MAME sites that don't really have ROMs per se but they do contain artwork, cabinets, snaps, marquees, control panels, PCBs, samples, etc. In addition to links. There's a lot of that type of material that I would imagine would be covered as intellectual property by the copyright owners. As it relates directly to the arcade games and has a lot of potentially questionable material and/or links. From sound samples to PCB pics. They even post no ROMs inside but still. How are you looking to handle those sites?

If it doesnt violate the rules here, it should be fine.

https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/2/forum-rulesSorry I did read through it which covers for lack of a better word "code" in the form of files. I guess my more direct question is the supplemental material connected to MAME such as pictures of actual arcade material and sound samples would they be considered in violation such as Progetto or Mr. Do, several good Italian ones, etc. A few times I didn't link to them as I wasn't sure if this type of material is ok?
