Hello. I just purchased a Raspberry Pi 3 Model B and an 8BITDO NES30 Pro Bluetooth Controller that are supposed to be here Thursday. I have a few preliminary questions about setup I was hoping someone could help me with so I'm ready for install.

      1. I'm finding different information surrounding the setup / install of the 8BITDO NES30 pro controller. Some tutorials I find are all command line where as others indicate that you can use the controller configuration section of the RetroPie setup. What is the recommended way to set up the controller during initial installation?

      2. Is there a list of folder names and their associated consoles? The tutorial I found says that the roms should be placed in "~/RetroPie/roms/SYSTEMNAME". Is SYSTEMNAME whatever I want to call it, or is there a list of ones that I need to use.

      Thanks!

I hope this info help you, i too have a PI 3. I have read that the control er setup that the emulation station starts will auto detect what you are using i.e. game pad

/RetroPie/roms/SYSTEMNAME is the directory but will will look like this "/RetroPie/roms/snes" or
/RetroPie/roms/mame4all" depending on the emulator but yes you should put the roms in the correct file.

the only way i found to access them is to use wincsp and log in as pi

How to I know what the folder should be named? For example, is the Sega Genesis named Genesis, SegaGenesis, SG, etc? Is there a list of the correct naming convention?

Thanks. I didn't know it created the folders for you. My stuff gets delivered tonight, so hopefully I'll have some time to play with it over the weekend.

I got it working. The controller was a struggle, but it's working now.

One question regarding the controller. Is there a way I can get the controller working in the configuration menus? I'm not sure if that's the correct term, but the menus that are blue and gray?

I tried to run a Dreamcast ROM not knowing that the emulator wasn't installed and was given an error screen. The problem was that I couldn't hit OK, so I had to go into the other room and hook up a keyboard.

long story short, I cant remeber the exact file location but there is a .config file that you will need to change, if im not mistaking
