First of all, if this is well-known and obvious, I apologize if my searching has failed.

Pi Model or other hardware: Pi 4--4GB
      Power Supply used: Canakit
      RetroPie Version Used : 4.6
Built From: Pi4 image downloaded May 30, 2020
USB Devices connected: Wireless Rii keyboard
Controller used: Dualshock 4 via Blutooth
      Error messages received: None
Log found in /dev/shm/runcommand.log (if relevant):
      Guide used: https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Nintendo-64/
      https://www.reddit.com/r/RetroPie/comments/7j0alm/n64_save_file_location/
      File: *eep, found nowhere
      Emulator: lr-mupen64plus-next
Attachment of config files: (PLEASE USE PASTEBIN.COM FOR LARGE LOGS)
How to replicate the problem: Try to find n64 *.eep files

I am searching for the location of *eep (native save for n64) files on an rPI 4, running RetroPie 4.6 using the lr-mupen64plus-next core.

On my older rig, an rPI 3B running mupen64plus-auto, I found the native save file, for Mario 64 with the extension .eep in /home/pi/.local/share/mupen64plus/save/
However, on my new rig, /home/pi/.local/share exists, but is empty. Also, checking /home/pi/RetroPie/roms/n64 yields a .state file and a .srm file, but no *eep files. Is lr-mupen64plus-next storing native saves as .srm? Is there some documentation someone could point me to?

The libretro cores usually use the .srm files for game saves (and .state file for save states). The .eep seems specific to the standalone emulator version.

@mitu Thank you! That explains a lot. Does anyone know if you can just rename a .eep file to .srm, or is some sort of conversion required?

@Paul-the-Cook yes afaik you can just rename 512 byte eep files but if you want to convert it back or if its a larger eep file youll need a converter like pj64tosrm

@quicksilver It is indeed 512 bytes. When my daughter relinquishes the hardware, I will try the rename and report the results.

Same question - where is game data folder situated now?
According this manual https://retropie.org.uk/docs/Optimization-for-Nintendo-64/ the folder must be /home/pi/.local/share/mupen64plus/ but share folder is empty and game saves are located in roms folder....
So, where need to put hires_texture to apply it now?
